F o r the firs t six m onths in 1972, re p a ir com plain ts w ere reduced by 100 p e r m onth because of new and im p ro v e d telephone fac ilities . A n d w hile a ll this im p ro v e m e n t costs m oney, G e n e ral Telephone had its last ra te increase in 1970 In 1960, a v e ra g e cost fo r in s ta llatio n was $490 p e r telephone. T o d ay th a t fig u re has ju m p e d to $1,100 because of the sophistication of equ ipm ent, m a te ria ls and labor. W h ile a ll this re fin e d equ ip m e n t has been in s ta lled in W ashington County, o th e r counties a re using the latest a v a ila b le s e rv ic e fro m G e n e ra l Telephone. T h e telephone is used fo r pocket paging system s o r public address system s. I t also is used fo r b u rg la r a la rm s o r h eat and cold te m p e ra tu re m o n ito ring equipm ent.
