What was that statement I made
last week about spring really be
ing here? It has snowed twice
since then and rained most of the
time in between snows.
Have heard a few rumors about
some of the local fishermen doing
OK on the Columbia. It sounds
like at least half of the popula
tion of Vernonia will take advan
tage of the great clam tides some
time during the weekend.

Last week on the front page in
the proceedings of the city coun
cil a short mention was made of
the complaint signed against the
school district for the removal of
the ramp at the office. This paper
had the complaint signed by "Mrs.
Melvin Peddicord ” The family-
objected to that title and wanted
it corrected to read Lillian Ped
dicord. So here is that correction
and apology from the editor.

There are so many- events com
ing up with in the next month to
five weeks that it will take some
kind of magician to keep up with
all of them.
There could not possibly be a
complaint lodged that there is not
enough to do. Just go look, some
one will find a job for you.
The Chamber is going to need
all of the help that they can get
in the tremendous clean-up pro
ject that they have planned for
the last of this month.
The Cancsr Society is still in
need of som e help for the melo
drama and related activities.
The Jaycees boat race promises
to be the biggest ever this year.
The committee has expressed
some apprehension about being
able to handle the record crowd
That is this Saturday.
The Little League benefit that
takes place tonight deserves your
support.
Those are just a few of the com
munity wide activities without
even mentioning the various clubs
activities and the church and the
school events.
It’s a go-go world and it seem s
like I somehow get myself invol-

• a t comes along. Boy am I going
to enjoy those few hours on the
beach this weekend chasing clams

Speaking of chasing I think that
our city council made a wise move
in requesting that half of the dog
license fees be returned to the city
and they will hire a man to chase
the dogs here in Vernonia.
That was a good piece of work
by the council to search out this
little known state ordinance and
take advantage of the fact that
we could get half of the fees re
turned to the city.
The chamber directors wish to
express their pleasure to the Green
Thumb crew for their hard and
diligent work m cleaning up along
our main street. Highway 47.
It is a good forerunner for the
Chamber-sponsored Clean-up days
of April 28-29 Let us keep our
streets and highways clean after
so much hard work in getting
them cleaned up.
