12 at Hearing Home
Rebekahs to Host District;
Reception Invitation Read
Mt, Heart Rebekah Lodge
met Thursday evening of last
week. May 14, with 22 members
present and Mildred Jessee,
noble grand, presiding. Ione
Justice, another of the local
residents who returned recent­
ly from Arizona where they had
spent the winter months, was
welcomed home.
Announcement Was made
that Laurie Banta and Donna
Walker had been selected as
delegates to Girls State, a pro­
ject in which the Rebekahs
participate with the American
legion Auxiliary by providing
funds for one delegate. As an-
oteher community service pro­
ject, a donation was voted for
the senior banquet fund.
A letter was read from the
incoming Rebekah Assembly
president, Jessie Goude, stat­
ing that her official visit to Mt.
Heart Lodge would be at a
special meeting the evening of
August 8. The district conven­
tion will be held here that day
and followed by the lodge meet­
ing.
Also, an invitation was re­
ceived to attend a reception for
Mrs. Goude at Mapleton June
20. She will be installed in
that office May 21 at the Re­
bekah Assembly session at Eu­
gene. At the same time, Irene
Minger will be installed as
Assembly inside guardian, an
office to which she has been

appointed by Mrs. Goude.
Following the meeting, Gladys
Worthington, Eva Hearing and
Mabel Graves acted as the so­
cial committee and served de­
lightful refreshments of cream
puffs fill with strawberry whip.
Tables were attractively decor­
ated with spring flowers.
Fay Davis, social club chair­
man, announced that the next
club meeting will be June 2 at
the home of Jackie Atkins on
OA Hill.
At the next meeting of the
lodge. May 28, Assembly dele­
gates Irma Chance and Arlie
Emmons will report on the As­
sembly sessions they are at­
tending this week at Eugene.
Report Given
On Convention
Vernonia Temple Pythian
Sisters heard a report from the
district convention May 2 at
their meeting Wednesday even­
ing of last week. Cora Lange
convention representative, told
of the various events of the day
in a very interesting resume.
The vote of the temple con­
firmed the invitation for the
1971 convention to be held in
Vernonia. A recommendation
of a district deputy will be
made soon.
Marie Atkins, ways and
means chairman, reported on
two successful events, the lun­
cheon served to the retired
teachers and the Mothers Day
food sale which had netted a
goodly sum for the temple trea­
sury From this fund a dona­
tion was made to the senior
banquet.
Following the meeting, re­
freshments of assorted jellos
and snack crackers were ser­
ved by Marie Atkins who was
assisted in preparations by Isa­
bel Culbertson who could not be
present that evening. The hos­
tess prize was awarded to Don­
na Walker.
At the next meeting, May 27,
ballotting will be exemplified
and plans will be made for in­
itiation in June. AU members
are urged to attend.

agent, visited in the afternoon.
Timber Route Unit will be
furnishing the salads for the
4-H Achievement Day June 6.
Mrs. Archie Christensen and
Mrs. George Smith were hos­
tesses for the day.
This was the last meeting for
the year, with the unit re­
cessing until September.

It was reported that $575 had
been turned over to the kidney
association, and $275 to the
department president’s project,
which is a playground at the
state blind school at Salem.
Accompanying Mrs. Kroeger
was Mrs. Hazel Cyrus, also of
Hillsboro.
The hostess served refresh­
ments of angel food cake, jello,
mints, nuts and coffee following

selling to Crown Zellerbach last year.

A certificate of appreciation
from the Oregon Heart associa­
tion for the auxiliary’s efforts
in the heart fund drive was re­
ceived.
Estelle (Mrs. Art) Kroeger of
Hillsboro, District 1 president,
made her official visitation. She
