Conscience has always been the world’s greatest disturber of the peace when it wakes up. Phone 429-3462 NEHALEM VALLEY MOTOR FREIGHT Through the Bible school at the Christian church, Fathers Day was observed with the naming of a “ Father of the Day’’ in the same way that a “ Mother of the Day” had been named in May. Each youngster was asked to submit an essay telling why his or her dad was worthy of that title. It was a hard job for the com mittee of judges for every father was deserving of honor, but the final selection gave this year’s ti tle to Robert Sargent, pastor of the church. His sons, Dennis and Wayne, es corted him to the platform and Dennis placed a crown on his head while Wayne tied a lei of prac tice golf balls around his neck. Mr. Sargent was then presented with a red carnation and a gift of Mc- G r e g o r golf balls. Everyone agreed he was most worthy of the honor and the congratulations of all were extended to him. Two other fathers received spec ial honor. They were Albert O. (Homer) Fuller who was escorted to the platform by his daughter Michelle to receive a red carna tion as a most deserving dad, and Robert Lindsay who was honored as the oldest father present. All other dads present were es corted to the platform by their sons or some other young man to receive a white carnation. The primary class, led by Miss Ann Sargent, gave a tribute end prayer for fathers. In other church school activities, the boys from Mrs. Don Tiffncy’s class left for a week at Camp Winema. This was the first camp of the season and much looked forward to by the young people. Christian Church Women Hold Meet The CWF met at the Christian church for their June 14 meeting. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Iva Lolley. President Blanche Millis called the meeting to order and Mrs. Oli via Wood gave the opening prayer and the devotion, “Journal of Miracle.” The business part of the meeting was held and meeting was then ad journed. Next meeting will be at the church July 26. AT THE CHURCHES V ER N O N IA BIBLE CHURCH John Hager, Pastor Gene Weller Sunday School Sup't. (1) Not less than eight days prior to the meeting of the budget committee at which time the budget message and budget document are to be received, the budget officer shall publish in a newspaper of general cir culation in the municipal cor poration a notice of the pur pose, time and place of the meeting where deliberations of the budget committee will take place and that any person may discuss proposed prog r a m s with the budget committee at that time.” The . . . notice was published in the St. Helens Chronicle May 18, 1967; the Sentinel- Mist of St. Helens May 25, 1967; and the Clatskanie Chief of Clatskanie May 25, 1967. Since the budget hearing was held May 25, 1967 which is less than eight days after public notice, the legality appears questionable and some interes ted citizens were denied the right to attend. Copies were sent to the county court. Atorney General Robert Y. Thornton, the state tax commis sion, Marko Haggard, Oregon head of the Office of Economic Oppor tunity, and local newspapers. The CAT offices are asking for a budget meeting, at which there are no limits for budgetary chan ges.
