    Service Honors Seven Students
A unique service was conduct
ed Sunday morning at the Evan
gelical United Brethren church
with the five high school seniors
and the two eighth grade students
from the church who are mem
bers of the 1966 classes taking
part in the service.
The five seniors are all mem
bers of the church youth choir.
Gordon Blackburn acted as song
leader for the service and also
gave the announcements.
Steven Minger led the Apostles
Creed, Robert Brinkerhoff gave
the invocation, Vicki Strong led
the responsive reading and Chris
Bender gave the morning pray
er. The two eighth graders, Su
san Floeter and Heather Higgin
botham, acted as ushers.
In lieu of a sermon, each of the
five seniors spoke briefly, giv
ing their testimonies and expres-
because he wanted the
speed of a thoroughbred
to race to BOB’S, where
the service and quality
get first prize.

to them. This was concluded with
a few words from the pastor, Rev
erend Raymond P. Targgart af
ter which all seven young people
knelt at the altar for a prayer
of dedication for the years ahead.
Following that, the congrega
tion filed past the graduates to
offer congratulations after which
all retired to the social room for
a coffee hour at which gifts were
presented to each of the gradu
ates.
Also presented with a gift was
Miss Phyllis Williams, Vernonia
high school teacher, who, during
her stay in Vernonia has attend
ed this church and assisted es
pecially in the Sunday school and
youth work. She does not plan
to return next fall and the well
wishes of the congregation were
given her for her future endea
vors, also.
Speaker next Sunday, May 29 at
the Evangelical United Brethren
church for the 11 a.m. services
will be Rev. Jesse R. Hastings of
Chicago. He is the former Chicago
area superintendent for the Ameri
can Sunday School Union.
EUB pastor, Raymond P. Targ
gart, also announced that two
guest speakers from the American
Sunday School Union would be
present that night.
Also, announcements will be
made Sunday concerning the Daily
Vacation Bible School which will
start June 6. The theme God’s Word
for My Life, has been selected and
plans are for an intensive one
week session. Additional details
will be given in next weeks paper.
