Notice is hereby given that an
election will be held in the inter­
mediate Education District of Co­
lumbia County, State of Oregon,
from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Day­
light Savings Time, on May 2,
1966. The election will be held in
each component school district at
the polling places designated as

mon school districts and the
Columbia County Intermediate
Education District.
The purpose of the election is
to submit to the qualified voters
of the Intermediate Education Dis­
trict the question of Increasing the
tax levy for the fiscal year be­

ticle XI of the Constitution.

CONSTRUCTION OF NEW COLUM­
BIA COUNTY COURT HOUSE
The
County Court
of
Columbia
County, Oregon, deems it advisable
to build a new Columbia County
Court House and has, on this date,
made and entered an order author­
izing the construction of said Court
House and, accordingly, the public
is hereby notified that a public hear­
ing will be held on the 25th day of
April, 1966 at 7:00 o’clock p.m. in
the Cafetorium of the St. Helens
Junior High School, St. Helens, Ore­
gon, for consideration and discussion
of matters pertaining to the construc­
tion of a new Columbia County Court
House in St. Helens, Columbia Coun­
ty, Oregon, the steps to be taken to
provide the funds necesssary for that
purpose and the proposed location
to said new Court House.
The site upon which it is proposed
to build the new courthouse is as
follows:
All of Lot 4, Lot 5, Lot 6, Lot 7,
Lot 8, Lot 9, Lot 10 and Lot 11
of Block 107, City of St. Helens,
Oregon, as per plat on file and
of record in the Clerk’s Office of
Columbia County, Oregon; also
all of Block 112, City of St. Hel­
ens, Columbia County, Oregon,
and all of Block 123, City of St.
Helens, Columbia County, Ore­
gon.
The approximate cost of the site
of the new courthouse is $190,000.00
and the approximate cost of the
proposed courthouse is $824,000.00.
The approximate date on which it
is proposed to commence construc­
tion is the 3rd day of April, 1967.
No tax levy is proposed or neces­
sary and no bond issue is proposed
or necessary for the construction of
a new County Courthouse, or the
acquisition of a site. The County of
Columbia has the funds necessary
for the acquisition of the site and
the construction of the new Court­
house in the Special Courthouse
Building Fund. The Special Court­
house Building Fund has a present
balance of $1,014,898.00.
The County Court of Columbia
County shall at its regular meeting
on Wednesday, June 8, 1966, enter
an Order and take whatever other
steps are necessary to secure and
commit the $1,014,898.00 in the Spec­
ial Courthouse Building Fund to the
construction of the new courthouse
and the acquisition of the aforesaid
site.
The public should take notice that
petitions authorized by Oregon Re­
vised Statutes Section 276.720 may
be submitted to the County Court
at the time and place of the public
hearing. The law does not provide
for the presentation of petitions set
forth in ORS 276.720 other than in
the manner and at the times set
forth in said ORS 276.720.
The present County Courthouse
will continue to function until the
new courthouse is built and occupied
and thereafter it will be utilized by
the County in such manner as will
be in the best interest of the citizens
of Columbia County.
This notice is given pursuant to,
and in conformance with, Oregon
Revised Statutes Sections 276.710 to
276.990.

Notice is hereby given that an
election will be held in School ’dis­
trict 47J of Columbia County. State
of Oregon, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
on May 2, 1966, at Washington
school, Vernonia and Mist school.
Mist, Oregon in said district, for
the purpose of submitting to the
legal voters of said district the
question of increasing the tax levy
for the fiscal year 1966-1967 over
the amount limited by section 11,
article XI, of the Constitution of
Oregon.
The reasons for increasing such
levy are:
Low base, increased enrollment
and costs.
The amount of tax, in excess of
the 6r; limitation, proposed to be
levied for said fiscal year is
$187,344.36.

Track Record Improved with
Three-way Meet Win Tuesday
Vernonia added another win to
their track record Tuesday by down­
ing Banks, 43; and Rainier, 30, with
a score of 89 points. A muddy track
and cold weather held times down
but the Loggers nabbed 11 firsts in
15 events. Jerry Hanson led the team
with two firsts, the long jump and
pole vault.
Fred Smith turned in a 17.9 effort
to take first in the 120 high hurdles,
followed by Minger a t 19.1.
Dave Peddicord and Jackson of
Banks both romped home in the cen­
tury in 11.5, with Jackson winning
the first place position.
The high jump event was won by
Gary Davis at 5’2” . Moore of Banks
also turned in an identical top mark

the top spot with a time of 5:13.4.
Loggers Coila and A1 Brunsman ran
second and third, times 5:19 and
5:31.
Les Forcier was the pace setter in
the 440 tallying a 60.7 time. In fourth
place was Karl Koch, timed at 64.4.
Jerry Hansom was the only Logger
placing in the long jump, leaping
18’10” for a first.
Minger and Andrus claimed first
and second place laurels in the low
hurdles running a second apart at
23.2 and 24.2.
Hanson again claimed first in the
pole vault event with a 11’6” mark.
Medges placed third, hitting 9’6” ;
and Curtis Hickman followed with
an even nine foot vault.
Medges and Blackburn added eight
points to the Logger team score in
the discus, taking first and second.
Medges effort was measured at 120’
4V4” and Blackburn’s at 113T1”.
Ray Kyser, with a heave of 40’6”,
gained first place in the shot put.
The javelin competition was domi­
nated by Vernonia: Bob Wood claim­
ed first place with a 142’U ” throw;
Medges, second, 140’; and Kyser,
fourth, 117’5” .
The Curl brothers garnered two
placings in the two-mile event.
Joe placed second, time 11:26.9; and
Steve, fourth, 11:56.3.
Dave Peddicord romped home in
25.7 to capture the 220 for Vernonia’s
only placing in this event.
Coila gained third in the 880, a
time of 2.23, behind Bank’s Moore,
2:21.0, and Rainier’s Risley, 2.23, A1
Brunsman placed fourth at 2:27.
The 880 relay was won by Vernonia
with a time of 1:47.4; Banks, 1:53.2.
Rainier did not enter a team in this
event.
The Logger thinclads travel to
Seaside this afternoon, April 14, to
engage the Gulls in a two-way meet.
