liker and Mrs. Frieda Rice.
After the bountiful noon meal the
meeting was called to order and

Mack Ballard of St. Helens talked
on insurance. He told of his re­

cent visit to the museum where
he was pleased wtih the many ex­
hibits.
Plans are made for another his­
torical booklet this year, with ma­
terial to be in the hands of the
secretary by May 1. Those having
material suitable for the booklet
should not delay. A good sale of
the other issues is being made.
Mrs. Ervin Abraham of Rainier
talked on her experiences in gath­
ering material. She also took some
of the booklets to sell at Rainier. One of a kind odds and

The Vernonia Extension Unit met
February 17 for its lesson on the
Costs of Higher Education and
Training.
Marian Cassel, safety chairman,
presented a very interesting report,
with pamphlets for all, and a
checklist of safety habits. Every­
one enjoyed the test and some de­
cided their scores indicated a few
changes around the house.
The next meeting, to be held on
March 17, promises to be great
fun. Everyone is to bring her sew­
ing machine and all of its clean­
ing accessories and some extra
scraps of material. The lesson is
to be The Use and Care of Your
Sewing Machine and the leader
training meeting was hilarious.
Kill all the time you wish, but

Oregon anglers are reminded by
the game commission that lower
Columbia River tributaries in Zone
1 and several Nehalem River trib­
utaries will close to angling at the
end of February and will remain
closed until May 21.
Columbia tributaries affected by
the closure include Bear Creek,
Beaver Creek, Big Creek, Clatska­
nie River, Gnat Creek, Klaskanine
North and South Forks, and the
Lewis and Clark River. Nehalem
River tributaries affected by the
February 28 closure include the
Nehalem North Fork, Cook Creek,
Rock Creek, and the Salmonberry
River.
Other streams in Zone 1 along
the coast will continue to be open
to steelhead angling through March
31. Anglers are urged to check
the angling synopsis for streams
which remain open through the
March period.
4-H Activities
Four-H club members in Columbia
county will be participating in 4-H
demonstration training meetings. All
demonstration meetings will start at
7:30 p.m. Following is the schedule
March 3, Petersen grade school,
Scappoose; March 7, multi-purpose
room, high school, Clatskanie; March
8, West Oregon Electric, Vernonia;
March 10, Rainier elementary school,
Rainier; March 11, Columbia City
Community hall. St. Helens area.
All club members are urged to at­
tend this meeting. Even those boys
and girls who do not demonstrate
will gain many ideas and suggestions
from observing other club members.
Parents are also urged to attend.
Those club members who have been
successful demonstrations will testi­
fy to the fact that this is a family
activity and club members need sup­
port and assistance from their par­
ents.

tance in the demonstration training.
