rmiR.Qi.'.n, thi
into an early lead, the Loggers
coasted along on their up to 27
point margin until the fourth quar
ter, when the Banks squad put on
a drive and closed the gap to seven
points. The final score read 83-
72 after a half time advantage of
42-28 in favor of the Loggers.
Banks resorted to a full court press
a good deal of the game and the
locals moved through it with good
ball handling and team play. A
marked difference was shown in
contrast to the previous night’s
Play.
The reserves got in quite a bit
of time on the court in this con
test, playing considerable amounts
of the second and third quarters.
They displayed some good move
ments and a lot of desire although
they lack the polish of the start
ing five.
Scoring for Vernonia was again
led by Smith with 23. Other scor
ing included: B. Hanson, 8; J. Curl
and Medges 5; J. Hanson 15; E l
ton and Pederson 2; Larson 19;
Minger 4; Ellis 0. The Brave’s a t
tack was led by Ron Kemper with
27 points.
Two hard played games this past
week end ended in defeats for the
Logger JVs as Clatskanie and
Banks took their measure. Coach
Crowston’s team was downed F ri
day night at Clatskanie by a 32-
45 score and then fell under the
Banks attack Saturday 47-55.
Scoring at Clatskanie was led by-
Gary Hanson with 11 points, fol
lowed by Pete Brunsman with 8;
Peddicord and S. Curl 4 each;
Nightwine and Robertson 2; and
Davis 1. High point man for the
game was Clatskanie’s Palomaki
with 13.
In the Banks contest, Dave Ped
dicord led the Loggers with 15
points, only two below the game
high point man, Lasromboise of
Banks, who hit for 17. Buddy Ro
bertson added 12 to the total; P.
Brunsman and Ellis 6 each; Holscy
5; and G. Hanson 3.

A fired-up Tiger quint blasted a
big hole in Vernonia’s title aspi
rations this past Friday at Clats
kanie by downing the Loggers by
a score of 58-55. Clatskanie came
into the contest as a dark horse
but emerged with a crucial vic
tory in the western division title
race.
As of this time Vernonia stands
3-1; Seaside, Warrenton and Clats
kanie follow close behind with 2-2
records and Neah-Kah-Nie is on
the bottom of the heap. Vernonia
has four counting games rem ain
ing and needs wins in all four to
have a chance at a league title
and three wins are necessary to be
in contention for second place in
their league half, states Coach Bert
Kronmiller.
In the Clatskanie contest, the
Loggers were led offensively by
Fred Smith, who garnered 24
points. Je rry Hanson and Dave
Larson followed with 14 each,
Curl had 2 and Elton 1. Jim Arm
strong and Cleve Multanen were
high for the Tigers with 18 and 15.
A probable factor in the Vernon
ia loss was the illness of several
players during the week preceding
the game, although Clatskanie was
fired up and out to knock off the
league leading quint. This defeat
puts Vernonia on a spot and they
will have to produce to the fullest
of their capabilities to keep title
hopes alive.
Saturday night, the Loggers went
to Banks to encounter the Braves
in a non-league contest. Jumping
