U. S. National Bank of Oregon
instituted a new savings program
designed to yield a higher rate of
interest on Monday, February 7,
according to President E. J. Kolar.
In an effort to stimulate more
savings in the state of Oregon,
which in turn provides an increased
lending capacity, Kolar said U. S.
National’s 101 statewide offices will
offer “Thrift Certificates.”
Size of the new certificates will
range from a minimum of $1,000 to
a maximum of $25,000. Maturity
will be from 90 days to 12 months,
and the certificates will offer a
higher rate of return than a pass
book savings account.
A Thrift Certificate with a 12-
month maturity date will return
4.5 percent to its owner. A cer
tificate with a maturity date of
at least 180 days but less than
12 months will return 4.25 percent
and a certificate with a maturity
date of 90 days to 179 days wiii
yield 4.0 percent. To achieve this
new higher rate of interest, each
certificate is redeemable only up
on maturity.
The American Legion auxiliary
dnit 119 met at the home of Reatha
Horn February 1 at 1 p.m. The
Past Presidents also met and en
joyed a delicious luncheon. After
the luncheon each group held a
short business meeting.

for a cooked food and fancy work
sale February 26. The place will
be announced later.

auxiliary department president will
make her official visit here Feb
ruary 19 at 8 p.m. St. Helens,
