The Columbias County Court hav­
ing this day met in regular session
for the purpose of transacting
county business, with the following
members present: Judge Earl N.
Seawright, Commissioners Louis J.
Wasser and O. D. Clark, where­
upon the following business was
transacted:
The minutes of the previous
meeting were read and approved
as corrected.
Miscellaneous claims were ap­
proved.
Contissioner Clark moved that
the offer of Mrs. Ixtuis Carmichael,
of December 7. 1965. to puechase
the west half of Lots 9 and 10.
Block 7. City of Vernonia, be ac­
cepted The motion died for lack
of a second.
Commissioner Wasser moved
that the amounts bid for the pur
chase of county owned property
not be put into the minutes of
the county court meetings. This
motion also died for lack of a sec­
ond.
The court received a signed deed
from Mary Waitkus, for part of
the property for the new fair-
g rounds.
Several letters were received
from various people and organi­
zations recommending either Bob

cision is reached.
Lester Pugh met with the court
to discuss his offer of $300 to pur
chase Tax Lot 25, in Section 26,
T8N, R4W, WM. The court took
the offer under advisement. Pugh
also discussed the purchase of a
right-of-way through the county
stockpile at Quincy. The court
agreed to meet with Pugh at a
later date to view the premises.
Guy Beachler, sanitarian, met
with the court to discuss the con­
struction and operation of county-
owned garbage dumps.
Herb Smith met with the court
to discuss the qualifications and
and work involved in becoming
the county dog catcher. He will
advise the court of his decision
in a few days.
Jim Day met with the court to
discuss certain matters pertain­
ing to his wrecking yard in Scap­
poose. He was advised to further
discuss the matter with the sher­
iff.
Cal Throne met with the court
for an interview for .the position
of Veteran Service Officer.
Commissioner Wasser advis­
ed that E. L. Sutton of the Ore­
gon Insurance Rating Bureau had
met with him and advised that the
fire extinguishers in the courthouse
must be checked and refilled no
later than February 3.

ler Steel Fabricating company,
which might be feasable for the
new fairgrounds. He advised that
the cost would be approximately
$1.50 per square foot. The court
recommended that he wait until
architects had been hired for the
design of the fairgrounds, and to
then contact them.
As the hour was late, court re­
cessed until January 13, 1966.

Bob Tolleshaug met with the court
to be interviewed for the position
of Veteran Service Officer. Com­
missioner Wasser moved and Com­
missioner Clark seconded that Tol­
leshaug be appointed Veteran Ser­
vice Officer to replace Erickson.
Motion carried.
An offer of $75 had been re­

ceived from Mr. Gallien for Lot
11 and part of Lot 12, Block 2,
Florence Addition to Rainier, at
a previous date. An increased of­
fer of $150 was received from Mr.
Gallien for said property. Said of­
fer was taken under advisement.
An offer of $475 was received
from Joseph K. Zook, of Sorenco
Homes, for Lot 7, Block 20, St.
Helens. This offer was also taken
under advisement.
Bruce Grady, juvenile officer,
met with the court to discuss cer­
tain budgetary matters.
Frank L. Patton met with the
court to request information about
the duties of a “ Road Viewer.”
Nothing further coming before
the court, the same adjourned un­
til January 19, 1966.
