To Make Qulit
Birthday Is Observed
At. W. Mathews Home
BIRKENFELD — The January
meeting of the Women’s Mission
ary group was held last Wednes
day at the home of Mrs. Lloyd
Garlock, Mist. Officers for the 1966
year were elected. Shirley Berg
will continue as chairman; May
Mills is vice chairman and Mrs.
Jim. Chouinard is secretary - treas
urer. Members have been asked
to bring denim fabric from old
jeans to the February meeting.
The back of the leg part of jeans
is usually left in good shape, re
gardless of how much wear and
tear the knee part has. The wo
men hope to make a quilt from
these pieces. Several ladies men
tioned they had either made one,
or have seen one, and they report
that they are very durable, as well
as useful and practical. They can
be made very colorful with tape
etc. The next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. Robert Math
ews in February.
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lonnquist
were in Portland Friday. They vis
ited with their grandson, J. J.
Lonnquist, who is now in Portland.
He and Paul Sanders are room
ing together. J. J. is working at
Bonnie’s Burgers and is also at
tending Portland State.
Mrs. Fred Udey and Mrs. Sax
on Barlow went to Beaverton Tues
day to the Ceramic Shop. Both
ladies do ceramic work.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Rodgers
and children, Mr. and Mrs. Hebe
Rodgers, and A1 Berg were Sun
day evening dinner guests at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Francis
Larson. The dinner was in honor
of Lorene and Herbert whose wed
ding anniversary was recently.
The Mist - Birkenfeld Extension
Unit met at the home of Mrs.
Charles Ramsey on Friday of this
past week. Nine ladies met to
learn about electricity from Mrs.
Art Bellingham and Mrs. Eldon
Shetler.
Art Bellingham flew Francis
Larson to Albany Sunday on bus
iness.
Mr. and Mrs. Wes Foultner and
family from Quincy visited the
Gene Etheridge family Sunday.
MIST—Mr. and Mrs. Rob e r t
Mathews and Mr. and Mrs. George
Mathews took cake, ice cream and
gifts to the Walter Mathews home
Friday evening to help Grace cel
ebrate her birthday.
Mist Helping Circle will meet
the fourth Thursday, January 27, at
the home of Mrs. Sam Devine in
Vernonia.
Assembly Dated
For Witnesses
Wayne Hathaway, presiding min
ister of the Vernonia Congregation
of Jehovah’s Witnesses announced
a few days ago that all of the
activity of the congregation, includ
ing public meetings, will be sus
pended between the dates of Jan
uary 21 and 23, thus allowing each
member of the congregation to at
tend the “Increasing Our Praise
to Jehovah” assembly to be held in
the R. A. Long high school in
Longview, Washington.
The local congregation will join
an anticipated 1,000 Witnesses of
Jehovah in the auditorium for the
three-day program of Bible discus
sion. The Longview assembly will
be the first of three scheduled by
Jehovah’s Witnesses this year and
will represent 17 congregations in
Oregon and Washington.
During the three-day seminar,
the program will focus attention on
God’s “Word of Truth.” Fundamen
tal Bible truths will be thoroughly
discussed to enhance the under
standing of those present and to
strengthen their faith. These dis
cussions will not be theory; they
will be sessions which will high
light archaeological discoveries,
proving the Bible and its chrono
logy to be true and trustworthy.
While the entire assembly is open
to all, the public is encouraged to
attend the talk to be given at 3
p.m. Sunday, January 23 entitled,
"WTiat Does the Resurrection from
the Dead Mean to You and Yours?
This talk will be of interest to
all living in these difficult times.
Congregation activities will re
sume immediately after the dele
gates return from the assembly.
