K Emergency Help Saves Freezers < (Too late for last week) BIRKENFELD — Dave Crawford of Mist was busy over the week end and the first p art of this week taking his portable generator up Fishhawk way to bring the freez e r box tem peratures back to nor mal. The power went off there early Friday morning and at this writing, it still has not been re stored. One of the biggest concerns when the power goes off is the freezer, so the minds of a num ber of families were put at ease with the generator’s arrival. Butch and Rocky, sons of Mr. Crawford, accompanied him on some of his trips to help in tran s porting the generator from the pick up to the freezers. Nick Berg also assisted him. Gary and Lloyd Johnston and Terry Larson returned to OSU in Corvallis Sunday. Gene Larson took his son, Marvin, to Oregon State Sunday, also. Steve and Kenny Bateman from Vernonia accom panied them. Cathy DuPuis went back to Monmouth on New Y ear’s day. The Ramsey family took Ann back to Cascade College in Port land Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Conrad and children, Coleen, Jolene, Kathleen, Arnold and Jam es, arrived from San Francisco Tuesday for a visit at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Watson. The Conrad family, here in time to spend New Years with the Watsons, and Mrs. Watson’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Worthington, left Sunday for their home in California. Mrs. Edna Johnson spent New Y ear’s Eve and p art of New Y ears day with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Udey. Mrs. Victor Berg has been busy babysitting some of her grandchil dren. Mrs. Francis Nordstrom and her daughter, Mrs. Fred Larsen (K aty), visited at the Berg home one day last week. Mrs. Larsen and her husband returned to their home in Salem Saturday. Ronnie Nordstrom left for Anaheim, Cal ifornia, also, Saturday. When a gal gets old enough to go out alone, she doesn’t. » » » » » I» » » » » » » : « YOUR JOB (N O TE: This column is written weekly and published by this news paper as a public and education al service. ANSWER: It looks very favora ble for a fine employment econo my in 1966. The index reached a record high in November of 128.4 compared to 120.5 for the same month in 1964 and usually the index reaches its peak in Febru ary. Actually, the employment economy never looked better and barring natural catastrophes and unfavorable w eather conditions, 1966 should see more employment records broken. QUESTION: Of the claimants who draw unemployment insur ance, how many draw the m axi mum amount of their benefits? ANSWER: During the 1965 fis cal year, out of every 1,000 claim ants filing for unemployment in surance in Oregon, 199 had insuf ficient earnings to draw any bene fits; 152 had a valid claim but drew no checks; 543 drew only p art of their benefits and 106 drew their maximum annual allowance. This means that only 16.3 percent of all persons drawing one or more weeks actually drew their maxi mum benefits in fiscal 1965. Procrastination may be the thief of time, but so are lots of other big words.
