past ifve years had been making her
home with her son on route 1, Cor­
nelius, and her daughter at Verboort,

iated at the services with Mrs.
Frank Serafin as soloist and Mrs.
Lloyd Thomas, organist. Concluding
rites and interment were at the
Vernonia Memorial cemetery with
Charles Kelly, Ernest Herman, Walt
Parker, Mark Forrest, Bill Horn
and Wally Noakes serving as casket
bearers.
Mrs. Horsley was born December
22, 1881 at Harrison, Arkansas and
spent all of her early years in that
area. She was united in marriage
there to William Horsley in 1909 and
they continued to reside in that area
until coming to the West Coast in
1941 and to Vernonia in 1942. She
made her home in Vernonia for al­
most 20 years, living in the Capitol
Hill district until the last few years
when she had been living with her
children in Washington county. Mr.
Horsley preceded her in death in
October, 1950.
Surviving are six children: four

of Cornelius; and two daughters,
Mrs. E. A. (Geneva) Rice, Ver­

met at the home of Evelyn Heath,
the evening of December 14.
Each member brought favorite
Christmas cookies and recipes which
were exchanged.
Mrs. Earl King gave the program
on the true meaning of Christmas.
She told how different customs start­
ed such as the singing of carols,
gift giving, ringing of bells, Christ­
mas flowers and other things which
have become customs.
The next meeting will be January
11 at the home of Mrs. Evelyn Heath.
Mrs. Lois Nelson will have the pro­
gram on an Oregon author.
SHOP AT HOME AND SAVE:

The occasion took on added pro­
portions when her other son and
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Willard G ar­
lock arrived unexpectedly from
Ketchikan, Alaska. They were ac­
companied by Mrs. Bern Bliss,
daughter of the Ray Garlocks.
Over 65 guests, in addition to
the family, signed the guest book
during the afternoon. Guests were
present from Clatskanie, Birken-
feld and Vernonia and some from
greater distances and many oth­
ers sent cards and gifts to con­
vey their good wishes.
The house was attractively dec­
orated in the Christmas theme
with a large poinsettia plant, a
gift from the Willard Garlocks,
highlighting them. A special Christ­
mas wreath made by Mrs. Lloyd
Garlock added to the festive ap­
pearance of the room Mrs. G ar­
lock wore a pink an<i white c a r­
nation corsage, a gift from
Steele’s Floral Shop, Clatskanie.

the afternoon with songs and oth-

house in addition to Mrs. Garlock’s
two sons and wives were four
grandchildren, Lloyd Garlock, Mrs.
Bern Bliss, Jam es Garlock from
Delake and Mrs. Fred Larson, Bir­
kenfeld and six of her great grand­
children. None of the great great
grandchildren could attend so only
four of her five generations were
represented.

Garlock sang Star of the East,
and she and Mrs. Sulo Sanders
also sang some duets. Mrs. Je r­
ry Hemeon had written a song
for the occasion which she sang
to the accompaniment of Mrs.
Bliss on the guitar. Mrs. Bliss
sang two original songs, one of
them which she had written sev-
ral years ago entitled Home for
Christmas which brought a nostal­
gic tear to the eyes of the guests.
Several beautifully decorat e d
cakes were served by Mrs. Bliss.
One bearing the numeral 90 was
made and decorated by Mrs. Ann
Tift of Clatskanie, a close friend
of the family. Another was made
by a granddaughter, Mrs. Fred
Larson of Birkenfeld. Mrs. Lloyd
Garlock served coffee and Mrs.
Larson, the punch.
