DEC. 16. 1965 Church Program Sunday Evening BJRKENFELD — The Mist-Birken- feld Community church will have their annual Sunday school program this coming Sunday evening. Decem­ ber 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the church in Birkenfeld. The community is in­ vited to hear the local children bring the Christmas message in song and verse. The Women’s Missionary group met at the home of Shirley Berg Wednesday with nine ladies and two children present. At noon the women enjoyed a potluck luncheon. Christ­ mas singing and a business meeting followed. Mrs. Eldon Shetler gave a short devotional on the Christmas star. Mrs. Charles Hansen. Mrs. Ar­ by Mills and Mrs. Lloyd Carlock were appointed on the nominating committee for the election of officers which will be held in January. Mrs. Carlock had charge of placing the Missionary offering, and she request­ ed that it be sent as a Christmas gift to an orphanage in Korea. The ladies present sang the familiar birthday song to Anna Hanberg who had a birthday the following day. Mrs. Charles Hansen made the cake which was enjoyed with coffee and ice cream. The meeting in January will be held at the home of Mrs. Lloyd Garlock in Mist. Clarence Glick, Fishhawk road res­ ident, came home from the Emanuel hospital in Portland Monday after having surgery. Mr. and Mrs. Everett Beach were at the home of his brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beach, and had dinner with them. A drive Sunday to Garibaldi was taken by Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ca­ hill. They reported good weather there. Mr. and Mrs. Bud Larson, Bob and Dwayne, spent the week end with his folks, Mr. and Mrs. Fran­ cis Larson. Monday, Mrs. Vick Berg and daughter, Judy Layman, went to Portland to bring Mrs. Layman’s little daughter Marcy home from the Shriner’s hospital. Marcy recent­ ly had plastic surgery. He is in the Providence hospital in Portland where the latest reports received state that he is improving. Mac, as he is called, lives in one of the Mist Cottages. Jessup Johnson of the Vector Control district met with the court to recommend that Kenneth Erick son of Clatskanie bo appointed to fill the vacancy created by Je­ rome I’uzey as a member of that district. Commissioner Wa s s e r moved and Commissioner Clark seconded that Erickson be appoint­ ed for a four-year term, to expire June 1, 1969. Motion carried. A letter was received from Mr. Rulien, division engineer of the state highway department, regard­ ing the intersection of Goble road and U.S. 30. He proposed a 50-50 arrangement to install a traffic signal. The court decided to meet with the city council and with rep­ resentatives of the highway com­ mission to discuss the matter fur­ ther. Sheriff Roy Wilburn met with the court to discuss radio equip­ ment desired by the Vernonia po­ lice to enable them to be in con­ tact with the sheriff’s department. He also discussed the licensing of junk yards and auction yards. The court received a telephone call from Dave Burroughs of the Association of Oregon Counties, regarding the interim committee on highways. He wished to know how Columbia county apportions O&C funds to the cities, and whe­ ther any changes in the present arrangement will be made. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Broks met with the court to discuss the purchase of property in Rainier. They were advised to get a legal description of the property, and then to submit an offer to the court. A letter was received from the Association of Oregon Counties, regarding the group health insur­ ance plan, and advising that they wish to expand daily hospital care coverage from $20 to $25 per day at a cost of $14.40 to the county, based on 64 subscribers, which would mean an addition of 23c per month premium for one person, 78c for employee and one dependent, or 88c for an entire family. The court advised that they were in favor of the increased coverage.
