One Year Here
Schools to Recess
On Sunday, December 19, Rev.
Milton B. Gudmundsen will cele
brate his first anniversary as pas
tor of the Vernonia Church of the
Nazarene. He will preach the an
nual Christmas message a t the
11:00 a.m. service, and preach
again at 7:00 p.m.
“This has been an interesting
year for me and for my family,’’
Rev. Gudmundsen is quoted as
saying. “We have come to know
and to appreciate the people of
this community, and value the
friendly acceptance that we have
found here. We feel that we are
a p art of the community, and plan
to be a p art for some time to
come.”
The Rev. Don DePasquale, mis
sionary from Syria, who had plan
ned to be guest speaker Sunday
evening has found it necessary to
cancel his tour of the Northwest.
A serious emergency, involving the
political conditions and the mis
sionary work on his station has
come up and the Rev DePasquale
has had to return quickly to his
work. He sends his deep regrets
to the people of this area. There
is no plan as yet for his return
here.
For the service on Sunday morn
ing, December 26 Rev. and Mrs.
Jam es Kratz, missionaries to Bra
zil will be guests. Rev. Kratz will
speak at 11:00 a.m., telling of the
work in Brazil and other parts of
South America. Rev. and Mrs.
Kratz are fine musicians, and will
provide special organ and violin
music for that service. The pub
lic is invited to all services.
It’s monoxide time again, says
the Traffic Safety and Education
Division of the Oregon Depart
ment of Motor Vehicles. Exhaust
leaks can be deadly in a closed
car. Check your muffler and tail
pipe. Be sure they’re in good con
dition. Anytime the motor’s run
ning, keep a window partially op
en.
A shaky reputation is one that
is built on the things a man in
tends to do tomorrow.
AT THE CHURCHES
All district 47J schools will recess
at the close of school Wednesday,
December 22 for the Christmas vaca
tion. Wednesday will be a full school
day with busses taking students
home at the regular time. Assembles
and class parties will be held that
afternoon. Classes will resume Mon
day, January 3.
