BIRKENFELD—J. J. Lonnquist,
Eugene, son of Jepson Lonnquist,
and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Jo
seph Lonnquist, Birkenfeld, took
quite a trip this summer. He flew
to London by jet and from there
visited France, Holland, Switzerland,
Denmark, Sweden, England, Ger
many, Austria, Yugoslavia, Italy,
Norway, Finland and Belgium. He
was gone for almost three months.
In Sweden he visited some of his
grandfather’s relatives. He hitch
hiked throughout these countries and
stayed mostly in youth hostels. He
is now back in school at the Univer
sity of Oregon.
It was learned recently that Pastor
Event Harshman’s mother passed
away in Idaho in September. The
Harshmans went to Idaho for the
funeral. Event Harshman is now
teaching one class at the Portland
Christian high school and is also
working at a service station in
town.
Mr. and Mrs. Arby Mills were in
Portland Friday. Sunday morning,
they attended the EUB church in
Vernonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Ramsey,
Vicky and Paul, Jan Johnston, and
Johnny Crawford went for a Sunday
drive out to the dike land near
Clatskanie, and also went to Jones
beach. Saturday the Ramseys were
in Portland and picked up their
daughter Ann, at Cascade College,
then did some shopping. They had
planned to go to the PI, but their
plans went awry. Mrs. Ramsey’s
folks, the Ira Hubers, left for their
home in Wellman, Iowa a week ago
last Tuesday after spending some
time visiting here.
Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Baker went
to Portland Sunday to visit with
their son, Sammy Baker, and his
wife Shirley. They also attended the
Pacific International. Sunday even
ing, the four Bakers had dinner with
Shirley’s folks, Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Marsten in Lake Grove. Mrs. Edna
Johnson and Mrs. Darrel Baker were
in Vernonia Friday.
Anna Hanberg took her cousin, Ag-
da Rognan to Portland Thursday and
to make plans to return to her home
in Seattle via bus. Mrs. Rognan
spent most of the summer here. Be
fore returning home Saturday, Anna
visited relatives in Gresham, and
visited a friend in St. Johns. Mrs.
A1 Cavanaugh and Mrs. Hugh Cox
accompanied Anna to Clatskanie
Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Beach were
Sunday dinner guests at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beach. On
Friday, Lloyd Beach was in Astoria
on business and Minnie Beach ac
companied Myrtle Mathews to For
est Grove on business.
Mr. and Mrs. Boone Johnston, Al
lan, Jan, and Steve were in Port
land Saturday to attend the PI.

BIRKENFELD — Mrs. Winifred
Hult of Horton called relatives here
Saturday evening telling them that
her daughter, Nancy Hult SchelJ,
husband, Martin, were parents of a
girl bom that afternoon. The little
girl, weighing 6 pounds, 9 ounces,
has been named Christine. This is
the first child for Nancy and Martin.
The other grandparents are Mr. and
Mrs. Oliver Schell. Sheridan.
Mr. and Mrs. Buddy Larson, Bob
and Dwayne, stopped by enroute
from Hillsboro Sunday evening to
visit with their family here before
returning to their home in Netarts.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Etheridge
went to Portland Tuesday. Mrs. Nan
cy Foultner of Quincy took care of
the store and postoffice during their
absence. Mr. and Mrs. Foultner and
three children came to visit the Eth
eridges Saturday, staying overnight,
and Mr. Etheridge and Mr. Foultner
did some hunting while they were
here.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lonnquist and
son Jepson were in Portland last
Tuesday on business. Mr. and Mrs.
Lonnquist attended the REA meet
ing in Vernonia Saturday.

Sunday and Fred was a lucky hunt
er, getting a nice five-point buck.
Randy Larsen and a friend from
Vernonia, Wade Von Heeder. hunted
Sunday also. Fred Larson is home
this week, as his company is doing
some surveying of new timber tracts.
