CWF Plans For
Future Events
The Christian Women’s Fellowship
ladies applied a great deal of elbow
grease at an all-day meeting held
February 11 at which the forenoon
was devoted to the cleaning of the
church.
After lunch the regular meeting
was held at which the various reports
were heard. The group is buying a
book, "God Speaks to Women To­
day,” by Eugenia Price, which will
be added to the church library.
The spring rummage sale dates
have been chosen for April 22-23. It
will be held at the fire hall.
Commemorative stamps or any
other stamps other than the most
common ones are being saved by
the group to be given missionaries.
Men’s white shirts are being pre­
pared to send either hospitals or a
leper colony.
Bazaar chairmen were selected so
that materials can be ordered and
work started on them.
Plans were made for painting some
rooms at the church next month.
“Love of Christ” was the theme
of the devotions given by Mrs. Olivia
Wood.
The meeting adjourned with the
CWF prayer. The next .meeting will
be held at 1:30 p.m. February 25
in the church social hall.
Altar Society Plans
Gordon Bridge Clinic
The St. Mary’s Altar Society met
at the home of Mrs. James Davies
February 11. The opening and clos­
ing prayers were led by Mrs. Antone
Smejkal.
The proposed February 20 card
party was discussed and final plans
were made.
Plans were also made for Sam
Gordon’s three-day bridge clinic to
be held at the fire hall March 18, 19
and 20.
The next meeting will be March
11 at the home of Mrs. Ralph Val-
piani.
The enemy is made up of human
beings, just as we are. That’s why
they can’t be trusted.
Parly Attracts Group
To L. Garlock Home
MIST — Mrs. Lloyd Garlock was
hostess Tuesday for a Stanley party
with 18 attending. Mrs. Violet De
Gandi of Clatskanie was the demon­
strator. Games were played with
several ladies winning prizes. Mrs
Norman Hansen won the door prize.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Saxton and
Earl were Saturday night and Sunday
guests at the Ray Garlock home.
Mrs. Fred Larson visited at the Gar­
lock home Thursday evening. Mr.
and Mrs. Paul Thompson of Delena
are at the Garlock home this week.
Missionary Society met Wednesday
afternoon at the Birkenfeld Commun­
ity Center with Mrs. John Crawford
and Mrs. Howard Grimsbo as hos­
tesses.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Garlock talk­
ed long distance Sunday with their
daughter, Mrs. Carl Dawson Jr. and
family. Everyone was well and en­
joying the nice weather.

TIMBER RT — Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Birt received word that her eight-
year-old nephew, Patrick Rowe of
Portland was hit by a car Monday
and suffered six broken ribs and
a broken collarbone. He is the son
of Robert Rowe who has visited
here many times.
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thacker of
Forest Grove visited his mother,
Mrs. Nell Thacker Sunday. Mrs.
Thacker had just returned home
from Clatskanie where she had spent
the past week with her daughter and
family, Mr. and Mrs. Les Galloway,
Tamara and Tom.
Mrs. Nellie Snyder accompanied
Mrs. Hazel Hascall and son to Port­
land Wednesday. While Walter was
attending to business the two ladies
visited Mrs. Snyder’s sister in St.
Johns where they were dinner guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Lester Teeling of
Portland visited Mr. and Mrs. Wil­
bur Thacker Sunday. They all cal­
led on Mrs. Maud New in Vernonia
in the afternoon.
Mrs. Charles Hascall and Mrs.
Carl Snyder called on Mrs. Carl
Wienecke Tuesday evening.
