Succumbs to Illness
Family Gathers
At Childs Home
TIMBER—The flag at the local
post office had just been hung at
half mast for former President Her­
bert Hoover when word was received
of the death of the postmaster, Mrs.
Gertrude Laverne Williams at her
home at 725 S. W. 90th St., Portland.
She had been in poor health for sev­
eral weeks at the home of her daugh­
ter, Mrs. Carolyn Hickman. Upon
recovery she came home and return­
ed to her duties, then became ill
again and returned to Portland. She
passed away quietly while watching
TV. Mr. Williams had stepped out
for a few minutes and found her
upon returning. Mrs. Williams was
born in 1906 at Jefferson, Oregon and
married Alva J. Williams in 1924
at Roseburg. Surviving are two chil­
dren: Donald A. Williams and Mrs.
Carolyn Jane Hickman; six grand
children, a sister Verle L. Drager
and brother, Samuel T. Johnson,
both of Portland and another sister,
Miss Gladys Mae Johnson of Tim­
ber.

John Peak October 19. Mrs. Peak
is the former Margie Kyser and is
the daughter of the Ernest Kysers
of Reedsport. The Peaks are living
at North Bend.
Thursday evening, October 29, at
7 p.m. the youngsters are invited to
