Seat Officers
The American Legion Post and Le­
gion Auxiliary unit No. 119 met Sep­
tember 14 for a joint installation.
The meeting opened with a pot
luck dinner at 6:30 p.m. A number
of visitors from Banks. Manning,
Sherwood, Clatskanie and Forest
Grove were present.
After the dinner hour, Darlene
Welch and Joyce Chandler gave an
interesting report on their weeks
stay at Girls state and thanked the
auxiliary for sending them.
The men’s installing team from
Clatsop Post, Astoria, seated the
Legion officers with Thomas Hall
going in as commander of Vernon­
ia Post 119.
The ladies installing team from
Vernonia unit installed the officers of
the auxiliary, seating Mrs. Thomas
Hall as president. District President
Cecelia Kuske from Clatsop unit No.
12 read the obligation
Mrs. Hall then awarded mem­
bership pins to the following ladies:
Beatrice Crawford, outgoing pres­
ident, for 35 years; Rase Valpiani.
30 years; Isabelle Culbertson and
Lona Weidman, 25 years; Nora Mit­
chell and Gertrude Schalock, 15
years. Mrs. Hall also received a
20-year pin.
Certificate awards of apprecia­
tion for outstanding work done for
the Legion and auxiliary during the
year were given to: Rose Valpiani,
Olivia Brickel, Mona Gordon, Ver­
nonia Eagle, Darrold Proehl and
Murel Folken.
Awards for 50 hours service went
to Isabelle Culbertson, Beatrice
Crawford and Beulah Hall.
Mrs. Marie Atkins received an
award for 100 hours of service.
At the close of the meeting, re­
freshments were served by the aux­
iliary members.

a new year.

The club chose “Balls of Yarn”
for their name. They will meet every
