News of Grandson Is
Relayed By Red Cross
BIRKENFELD — Mr. and Mrs.
Vick Berg are happy over the ar­
rival of a grandson born in Italy
to Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Berg August
24. The Red Cross relayed the
news to the Red Cross in Astoria
and they in turn relayed it to the
Bergs. His name is Loren Lee and
he weighed in at 7 pounds 9 ounces
Mr. and Mrs. Orval Kelsey of
Portland visited Sunday at the
Tom Hopkins home.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hopkins, Mr.
and Mrs. Mickey Hopkins and
family and Hazel Cook of Port­
land will leave Saturday morning
for Walla Walla where they will
visit with relatives for a couple of
days.

DeeVeere Hershey and Devy spent
several days last week in Port­
land at the home of her sister,
Mrs. Wm. Lumm. Mr. Hershey
brought them home Friday even­
ing and Greg Pope accompanied
them. They attended a family re­
union at Woodburn Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Reed Holding of
Scappoose spent the week end
here with Mr. and Mrs. Max
Oblack,
Mr. and Mrs. Ray Taylor and
girls were Sunday dinner guests
at the home of his cousin, Mrs.
Simon Ringsage in Portland. Oth­
er guests were Mr. Taylor’s mother
and his sister, Mrs. Myrtle Oakes.

Mask of Longview visited the zoo
at Portland Sunday.
Mrs. Don Armstrong of West
Slope drove out to get her two
daughters who had spent the week
with their grandparents, Mr. and

tend the funeral of his brother-in-

Columbia county fair and rodeo.

say. Another Friday caller was
Mr. Slater of New York whose
father had had a homestead in the
Pittsburg area. He was trying to
locate the place.

Portland spent Wednesday with
Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Lindsay.

ited Mr. and Mrs. Max Oblack
Friday. Joyce Johnson called on
Mrs. Oblack Friday afternoon.
TIMBER ROUTE — Mr. and
Mrs. Claude Weaver Jr. called
on his grandmother, Mrs. Exie
Weaver last Friday evening to say
goodbye as Claud enlisted in the
navy last Tuesday and was to fly
from Portland to San Diego Mon­
day where he will receive approx­
imately nine weeks of basic train­
ing. His wife, Roberta, will make
her home with her parents, the
Art Jacobs in Vernonia while he
is away.
Vick Siedelman from Portland
visited last Tuesday at the home
of his brother and wife, Mr. and
Mrs. Marion Siedelman.
Mr. and Mrs. Chester Reynolds
from Portland visited with rela­
tives on Timber Route and in Ver­
nonia Saturday evening.
Recently visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Ed Crawford were their two chil­
dren, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Bush and
three children from Concord, Cal­
ifornia, and Mr. and Mrs. Clayton
Hoff and three children from St.
Paul, Minnesota. Both families had
previously been in Seattle attend­
ing the worlds fair.

Meets At Watson Home

St. Paul Lutheran church of Port­
land and their wives held a pot
luck luncheon and meeting Sunday
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James
Watson up the Fishhawk.
Mr. and Mrs. Art Bellingham,
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Nordstrom
and Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Richardson
attended the Crown picnic at Rog­
ers Park Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beach were
Portland business callers Saturday.
Johnnie Hopkins returned home
from Kenai, Alaska Saturday. He
made a business trip there and
was gone for two weeks.

Berg home last Monday. They
were enroute to the coast. Shir­
ley Berg and Joe Alexander also
went to the beach and they stop­
ped and visited with Winifred
Hult on their way back home.
Mr. and Mrs. Willard Garlock
and granddaughter Penny of War­
renton came up Saturday evening
and spent all night and Sunday at
the Fred Larsons. Mrs. Garlock
still has her leg in a cast and will
for some time yet, but she is com­
ing along real good.
