To the Editor:
Housewives, do you want to
taka home a "pound” package
grocery bargain, only to discover
it weighs 13 ounces, not 16?
By a Clatskanie news item, the
dairymen are already objecting to
the recent appearance in the Ore
gon market of a package of oleo
margarine which weighs only 13
ounces instead of the customary
16.
If elected as your State Repre
sentative, I will introduce a bill
that standard net weights of pack
ages from 1 to 32 ounces shall be
1, 2, 4 or 8 ounces, 1, 1% or 2
pounds, legibly shown on the
package. Any packages that are
not standard weight shall show ac
tual weight in letters that are at
least one-fifth inch high but not
less than one-fifth the size of the
biggest letters on the package.

Dick Leith of Warren, an active

QUESTION: I will be 62 this
month and I understand that I
can retire and get social security
but that my monthly benefit will
be less than I would get if I were
65. Can you tell me how much of
a reduction I will have to take if
I decide to draw my social security
benefits now?
ANSWER: Your monthly social
security benefit will be reduced by
20 percent if you apply as soon
as you reach 62. For example, if
your earnings under social security
would qualify you for a benefit
of $100 at age 65. you would be
able to collect $80 a month at age
62. That $80 a month would con
tinue to be payable to you even
after you did reach 65. It would
generally not go up — unless you
returned to work and had earn
ings high enough to require the
withholdings of your benefits for
some months.

ANSWER: Employers who re

earnings with your maiden name.
In order for you to get proper cre
