Gus Hult and son Jim of Rod-
man Bay, Alaska are spending a
month at the home of their
daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Claude Gibson Jr. Sunday
visitors there were Mr. and Mrs.
Claude Gibson Sr. of Amboy,
Washington and Mrs. Rilla Syn-
der of Portland.
Monday visitors at the home of
Mrs. Glenn Mitchell were her
two daughters, Mrs. Charles Dar­
by and Mrs. Emmett Smith of
Portland.
Otto Holmberg returned home
from the hospital recently and is
walking with the aid of crutches
after spending many months in a
wheel-chair.
Mrs. Carrie Brown of Sweet
Home came Wednesday to spend
the holidays with her sister, Mrs.
Grace Peachey.
Mr. and Mrs1. Carl Brauner
visited their daughter and family

Vancouver, Washington Thursday.
December 8, an awards assem­
bly was held at Vernonia high
school for the presentation of cer­
tificates and letters to those who
had earned them by participation
in football during the 1961 sea­
son. Players are awarded letters
for their first year participation,
and certificates for additional
years. JV letters are replaced
with varsity letters when earned.
Those receiving varsity letters
were: Ron Callister, John Hilder-
brand, Gary Johnston, Jim Ju s­
tice, Harvey Redmond and Bob
Grimsbo.
Certificates went to the follow­
ing:
Third year—Randy Aultman,
Marv Crowston, Jack Halsey,
Fred Mangat, Leonard Schmidlin
and Jim Mullins.
Second year—Bill Bergerson,
Delbert Bush, Tom Cavanaugh,
Bob Cone, Boxer Cox, Jim Eck-
land, Ray Hamnett and Ken Har­
ris.
In recognition of the placing of
Marv Crowston and Leonard
Schmidlin on the league and all-
state teams, their jerseys were
retired and given to them to keep.
Also, Roy Reynolds was given
recognition as team manager in
all-state listings.
JV awards went to the follow­
ing: Ed Kamholz, Jim Lucore,
Don Robertson, Larry Wright and
Gary Robertson, manager.
Freshmen who received certifi­
cates and letters were Ken Bate­
man, Jim Bellingham, Robert Fu-
quay, Bob Hall, Dennis Halsey,
Loyd Johnston, Terry Larson,
Mark Medges, Bill Pringle, Rus­
sell Redmond, Terry Smith, Dan
Steele, Dave Wantland, John Wel­

On Jan. 8, the squadron will

placed its last North American
"Fury” jet with the new super­
sonic Chance Vought “Crusader,”
the latest in a series of utility air­
craft stretching back to the Gru-
man “Hellcat” of World War II.
