Mrs. Ralph Reynolds acted as leader for the project and chairs which were redone were owned by Mrs. George Smith, Mrs. Dar- rold Proehl, Mrs. Ralph Aldrich and Mrs. Julius Hytrek. In addi, tion to these ladies, four others acted as helpers in order to gain knowledge of the methods used. They were Mrs. Ed Cassel, Mrs. James Harris, Mrs. Edgar Hart zell and Mrs. Walter Linn. The reupholstering of chairs was a workshop project of the extension units some time ago and other local workshops have been carried on since then by the project leaders to give opportun ity for more women to learn the methods and to have assistance with renewing of chairs. Chairs redone in this workshop included two club chairs, a swing rocker and a child's rocking chair. Soil tests, as well as field ob servations, indicate that boron levels of soil of this area are de ficient for the production of al falfa, clover, walnuts, and some of the vegetable crops. Aluminum Etching Is Timber Route Project Mrs. Joe Johnson and Mrs. Marvin Meyer were the project leaders for the lesson on alumi- num etching presented to the members of the Timber route ex tension unit last Thursday at the Vernonia Grange hall. About a dozen ladies learned the method by work on six inch discs which were made into small trays. They learned how to coat the discs, then etch the design with acid after which the coating was clean ed from the aluminum, leaving the etched design in the metal. The method can be applied to larged trays, jewelry and other items from aluminum. Three guests were present in addition to unit members. Mrs. Ralph Bcrgerson was hostess for the day. materials are used as weed killers at high rates of application.
