J Hom, Mr. and Mrs. O. T Bate man, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Roediger, Dr. and Mrs. L. M Crossan and Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kamholz. Mr*. Walter Linn were in Portland Saturday to attend luncheons for groups of past matrons of East ern Star chapters in this area. Mrs. Brunsman was at the one for 1954 matrons at the Aero club and Mrs. Linn attended the 1952 group luncheon at Milwau kie. NEW YEARS Eve carnival dance. English and homemaking teacher at Ver nonia high school, was taken to Tuality hospital at Hillsboro for an emergency appendectomy Fri day of last week. She was re leased from the hospital Tuesday and went to her home at Troy, Idaho to complete recuperation. Both Mrs. Grace Currie and Mrs. Eva Taylor who is visiting her this month have been ill this week with severe colds. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Smith from Grayland, Washington were in Vernonia Monday evening while enroute to California for Christ mas with their son. TRAP SHOOT. Sun., Dec. 22. 10 I a.m., old ball park. Turkeys, chickens. Vernonia Trap Club. Miller's Department Store Timber Cafe Is Closed Saturday by Cochrans TIMBER — Mr. and Mrs Clar ence Cochran left Saturday for their home at Hubbard. They have given up the Timber cafe, which they owned and operated the past year. Flu has been raging again with quite a few out of school and many out of circulation. Larry Sponsel of Wheeler spent the week end here with Lester Metzker. George Hall of Arcata, Calif ornia spent last Wednesday and Thursday with his wife, Iva Hall, who has been visiting the past two weeks with her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Tolson. George Riggle was a Sunday dinner visitor with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Riggle at Buxton 5011c Mrs. Oakley Cripps is recuper ating from a severe case of bron chial pneumonia which she suf fered more than a week ago and which was complicated by a heart condition. Friends of Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Thompson of Portland are re ceiving Christmas greetings from them from San Juan, Texas where they are spending the win ter. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Hanon left Tuescjpy for Orick, California where they will spend the win ter with their son. Gene C. Han on. Lester f McGee of Everson. Washington spent several days last week at the home of'Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lange while looking after his property here. Mrs. Melvin Barrett and Mr and Mrs. Dan Cason. Holiday guests at the home of Mr and Mrs. Bill Adams include Mrs. Adelaide Haslam of Cedar City, Utah, sister of Mr. Adams whom he had not seen for 22 years; his brother, Robert Adams from Bend and her brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Price from Bremerton. Mrs. Paul Gordon was a dinner guest Sunday at the home of Mr and Mrs. Harry Ford at Forst Grove. Other guests were Mrs. Ruth Hamilton of Forest Grove and Mrs. Judd Greenman of Port land. Later in the day, Mrs Ford and Mrs. Gordon attended the annual Wassail party at Pa cific University. Mr. and Mrs. Bill French and family will move Saturday to Beaverton. DECEMBER 19 Annual Christmas program — Granddaughter Washington school, 8:00 p.m. TIMBER — Mr and Mrs. R S Rogers received word of the birth of a 7 pound, 11^»-ounce baby daughter, Tern Lee. to their son and wife, Mr and Mrs. Richard Rogers at Spokane, Washington on December 10. George Riggle spent last Thurs day in Garibaldi at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Blanch ard, and at Rockaway with Mr. and Mrs. Bill Burroughs. Don Parker who has been in the air corps in Japen for two years, returned here to the home of his mother and step father, Mr. and Mrs. Illif Van Ronk, last Wednesday. Miss Janelda Brown, who has been employed in Portland the past two years in spending the winter here with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Everette Patrick. A group of ladies gathered last Tuesday, December 10, at the borne of Mrs. Jewell Griffith, to help her celebrate her birthday. Mr. and Mrs. John Ohler and family spent Friday night witn John's brother, Harry Ohler and his family, and Saturday night with Mrs. Ohler’s father, John McLaughlin in Portland. They returned home Sunday night. Jack Klein of Eugene spent the week end here with his mo ther, Mrs. Elizabeth Tolson. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Williams. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Hickman and four children, Mr. and Mrs. Don Williams and son Dale, and Ron nie Johnson, all of Portland, were Sunday afternoon visitors at the Gladys Johnson home and went Christmas tr -e hunting. Mr. and Mi’s. Nick Fursten- burg and family of Vancouver, Washington were Sunday dinner guests of Mrs. Furstenburg’s par ents, Mr. and Mrs. William Jonn son.
