    Gem and Fossil Club
Sees Rice Collection
The Tualatin Valley Rock club
entertained the Vernonia Gem
and Fossil club Thursday of la.it
week at the home of Mr and
Mrs. Richard Rice near North
Plains. Everyone enjoyed seeing
and admiring his most outstand­
ing collection of agates, petrified
wood and fossils from America,
Mexico and some from Soutn
America and other countries. His
collection has won several prizes
at different rock shows.
There were 14 members of the
Vtrnoma club and seven visitors
from Vernonia as well as club
members from Hillsboro, Port­
land and Forest Grove who at-
t» -ded the affair. In all, 84 were
present. Refreshments were ser­
ve! after Mrs. Rice xplained the
e»»i lection.
The Vernonia Gem and Fossil
club will meet at the West Ore-
go”. building tomorrow evening,
November 22. at 8:00 p.m. for

Past Chiefs filled all the chairs
at the meeting of V-rnonia tem­
ple, Pythian Sisters held last

A patriotic theme in keeping
with Veterans day was carried
out on the tables at which re­

The next meeting, November
27, will b" the first nomination
of officers for 1958. The second
nomination and election will take
place December 11. The next
two meetings have also been de­
signed as Home Donation meet­
ings when members will bring in
home canned fruits and vege­
tables for delivery to the Pythian
home at Vancouver, Washington.
Members who do not have home
canned things to donate are asked
to donate money for purchase
of cases of canned foods to add to
the home canned things.
