Breakfast. Crab Feed on Lodge. Encampment Slates Plans for the Boy Scout break fast which will be served by the Odd Fellows lodge on Mothers Day are shaping up, with 6:00 a m, announced as the hour that serving will begin. The preparing and serving of the breakfast will be done by the Odd Fellows and all the proceeds will go to the projects of the local troop which is sponsored by tlje lodge. Scouts will sell tickets both this Satur day and next. The Columbia Encampment No. 89. will be visited by Grand Chief Patriarch George Howard of Canby tomorrow night, May 3, and after the meeting, wives of members will join them for a crab feed. Vernonia Extension Unit To Learn Care Of Hair The Vernonia extension unit will meet May 9 at the EUB church for a project on the care of the hair. Leaders will be Mrs. B: 1 French and Mrs. Joe Eggert. A silent auction will also be a feature of the day, and a low caiorie potluck luncheon will be held at noon. A baby sitter will be on duty and all interested persons are invited to attend. Janet Kouva Honored O b First Birthday RIVERVIEW — A birthday party was held Friday evening for Janet Kouva celebrating her first birthday. Guests were Mrs. Robert Montgomery and daugh- ter Janice, Andy Hick^ and Da vid and Tommy Kouva. Mrs. Clifford Fowler spent Tuesday at St. Helens with her mother, Mrs. Cora Biggs, who is critically ill at the Columbia Nursing home. They were Mrs. George Johnson, guardian neigh bor for Nehalem circle, "Mrs. R. S. Lindsay and Mrs. Nona Lank- ston. Mrs. Johnson also held the of fice of district circle manager for this session and in the election held Tuesday. Mrs. Lankston was elected to that position for the coming year. Monday evening, Mrs. Frank Willis and Mr. and Mrs. Grant Thayer took Julia Waite and Ver na Johnson to Portland to be initiated into the order. They were with a class of ten on whom initiatory degrees were confer red. Six others were taken into the ord ?r by transfer from the juvniles. Outstanding feature of the pro gram presented that evening was a precision drill put on by the juveniles. At th? meeting of the Wood craft Handcrafj club held last Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Johnson, a project was start ed for making hand painted tea towels and tablecloths to send to the Woodcraft home near Hood ! At the meeting of Vernonia Temple, Pythian Sisters, held last Wednesday evening Silvia Wolff, district deputy grand chief, ap pointed additional committees for for the district convention which will be held here May 25. Otilia Heckenliable, chairman of the luncheon committee, also lined up the needed assistance for that. Mrs. Harry Culbertson, winner of the Easter grocery basket, ex pressed her delight at its contents. Around $85 was realized from th>> project and Mrs. Heckenliable was the top ticket seller with about $25 to her credit. Mrs. Alma Logan of St. Helens and her daughter. Mrs. Larry Ma- tinen of Vernonia, both of whom are members of Ava temple, St Helens, were guests. After adjournment, delicious re freshments wer- served by Alice Buckley, Rose Miller and Hettie Peterson.
