7, as the Juniors gathered after
school for their meeting.

scenes in shoe boxes. Each girl
is to bring a peep-in picture box
back to their meeting today.
Membership chairman of unit
119, Joan Waite, announced that
any Junior who had not partici
pated in the ceremony was elig
ible to be formally initiated with
the regular members Saturday
evening, March 23.
In planning for future projects,
a committee, Sally Biggs, and
fx>rene Stiff, was appointed to
find out the cost of scrapbook
materials. Juniors are to bring
pictures of scenery and/or ani
mals to the next meeting.
The ways and means committee
announced plans for jn Easter
food basket at the regular meet
ing of Vernonia Temple No. 61.
Pythian Sisters last Wednesday
evening. Faye Davis, excellent
senior, presided, in the absence
of the most excellent chief, Ma
thilde Bergerson.
Silvia Wolff, district deputy
grand chief, appointed commit
tees for the coming district con
vention, which will be held here
May 25, and other plans were
also discussed.
The Temple voted to sponsor
t- 4-H club member at summer
school at Corvallis again this
year.
Silvia Wolff drew the hostess
prize.
Following closing ceremonies,
delicious refreshments of lime
jello and green frosted angel food
cake, in keeping with St. Pat
rick's day, were served by the
committee composed of Silvia
Wolff, Eula Blount and Cora
Lange.
Practice for initiatory work
was set for this evening. Thurs
day, at 8 pm. and initiation for
two candidates will be exempli
fied at the next meeting, March
27.

February 28, with a surprise
party arranged for her by Mrs.

ternoon to extend greetings.
Highlight of the afternoon was
when Mrs. Blount’s three year old
son sang happy birthday to
grandma, after which angelfood
cake and jello and coffee were
served to the 11 adults and four
children present.

March 26, election of officers will
be held, and on Friday of next
week, March 29, the VFW
and auxiliary will have an
anniversary dinner and party at
the hall with the burning of the
mortgage as the highlight of the
evening.

Holy Old Mackinaw Is
Reviewed for Study Club
Mrs. Darrold Proehl was hos
tess to the Vernonia Study club
on Thursday evening, March 7, at
her home.

The program was given by
Mrs. Emil Messing on ’’Holy Old
Mackinaw”, a book about his
tory of logging in the Pacific
Northwest, which was very in
teresting.
The club will meet again this
evening at the home of Mrs. B.
J. Horn.

Remnants Leave Friday
For California Home
Mrs. M. J. Bjornson carried
out the St. Patrick’s day theme
Friday when she entertained the
members of the Friendly Pinochle
club and used shamrocks in de
corations and for score cards.
To start the afternoon, her
guests were served banana splits
and wafers.
Mrs. R. L. Thompson won first
prize and second prize went to
Mrs. Leon Savage, guest for the
afternoon who played for Mrs.
Iiueben Pederson who was ill.
Mrs. Art Davis will entertain
the club tomorrow afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. George Remnant
left here Friday morning for
Manhattan Beach, California
where Mr. Remnant will be the
cashier at the South Bay bank.

additional guests being Mr. and

Elects New Officers
At the meeting of the Nehalem
Social club. OES, held last Wed
nesday, March 13. at the home of
Mrs. Emil Messing. Mrs. Norman
Hamnett was elected president
for the ensuing 15 month period.
Other officers named to serve
with her were Mrs. Doris West,
Timber, vice-president; Mrs. Ed
Roediger, secretary and Mrs. Wm.
Bridgers, treasurer.
Mrs. Frank Serafin, retiring
president, was presented with a
cup and saucer as an expression
of appreciation from the club.

Sunday afternoon to honor Miss
Carol Hoteman, grand worthy as
sociate advisor for the. g.'and as
sembly of Oregon, Order of Rain
bow for Girls, drew attendance
from many assemblies, includ
ing Nehalem Assembly, Vernonia.
Those who attended from here
were Jan Garner, grand love,
who was escorted and seated in
the East with other grand offi
cers; Marjorie Reynolds, worthy
advisor of Nehalem Assembly;
and Caro] Ray, Vivian Thompson,
Vicky Serafin, Karen Hoyt and
Freda Cotton.
Transportation for the girls was
provided by Mr. and Mrs. Walter
Linn and Mrs. Glen Hawkins,

in the basement party room at

Hawkins Friday evening, Marell

completed the eight weeks course
in square dance instruction given
by Mr. Hawkins. Those receiving
