Pea Weevil Control Methods Outlined Pea weevils have begun to emerge from their winter hiber nation quarters and home garden ers will need to start taking steps to control the weevils to prevent weevily peas, reports Lou Oes- ter, special extension agent. Proper timing of insecticide ap plications is important because the adult weevils must be killed before they lay their eggs on the pods. Generally, the first avpli- cations are made when the first pods. Generally, the first appii- tions are made at 5-7 day inter vals until harvest. Insecticides recommended in clude a 5% DDT dust, a % of one per cent rotonone dust, or a 5', methoxychlor dust. The DDT dust is not recommended where the vines are to be fed to dairy cattle or to livestock being fin- ished for slaughter.
