The faculty of the Daily Vaca
tion Bible school of the First
Christian church met last week
to begin work on the school to be
held May 31 to June 10.
The superintendent of the
school this year will be Mrs Earl
King.
The superintendents of
the departments are as follows:
junior and intermenate, Mrs. Don
Campbell; primary. Mrs. Charles
Hickman; beginners, Mrs. Rosa
lie Ruediger: nursery, Mrs Kath
leen Hall. Mrs. Elizabeth Sera
fin will supervise the music. As
sisting in the various departments
will be Mrs. Madeline Hecken-
liable, Nellie Wolf, Joyce Sulli
van, Mary Millis and Mrs. Leake.
The theme for the vacation
school for 1955 will be “Heroes of
the Cross”. This is an interest
ing and inspiring study of those
great men who lived and dud for
the sake of Christ and the church
in apostolic days. It is the aim
to prepare boys and girls to meet
life’s problems as they occur—
and to face them as a Christian
should.
Enrollment started last Sun
day and will continue until the
beginning of the school.

Has Contest
Couple Give Friend
Surprise On Birthday
NATAL — On Sunday Mr. and
Mrs. Ira Peterson and Mr. and
Mrs. Noble Dunlap motored to
Aurora where they went to sur
prise Ann Beerman and help her
celebrate her birthday.
Last Thursday Mr. and Mrs.
Ira Peterson were in Mountain
dale where they visited with Mr.
and Mrs. Karl Radditz.
Mr. and Mrs. Ike Dass motored
to Portland one day last week
where they visited their daugh
ter and family, the Don Arm
strongs.

Mission Offering

April 23 will be “One Hundred
Million Dollar Day" at the Ver
nonia Seventh-day Adventist
church, it was announced recent
ly.
On that day offerings from
Sabbath School members through
out the world will probably to
tal $100,000,000 since children
and adults began giving in this
division of the Adventist church
in 1886.
It was stated that all of this
sum has been used through the
years for foreign missions ex
pansion.
The $98,000,000 mark
was reached by Adventists on
December 17, 1954. The predic
tion by th? church’s statistical
department that April 23 will be
the day on which the $100,000,000
mark will be reached is based on
the current rate of offerings with
in the denomination.

The Timber Friends church is
in the midst of an enthusiastic
Sunday school contest according
to Pastor Harold Ankeny. The
main incentive theme is the use
of Quaker Dollars which are pas
sed out each Sunday for attend
ance, memorization, use of the
Bible and other things. At the
end of the contest, the money
will be us d to buy articles at an
auction. The articles have been
contributed by merchants and in
dividuals interested in the church
and interested
in advertising
their product.
Another feature to be present
ed each Sunday, according to Eu
gene Hibbs, Sunday schol super
intendent is a mystery box. This
box contains a well known article
and for the person bringing a
guest an opportunity is given to
guess the article in the box using
a given clue as an aid.
The contest is between the
Hillsboro Friends church and Tim
ber on an attendance basis. The
contest runs from April 17 to
May 22. All ar:1 invited. Ser
vices are held each Sunday in
the Timber grade school at 10:00
a.m. and 11:00 a m.

Mist-Nehalem Unit Gets
Lesson On Mending Tips

Busy At Reynolds Home
The Mist-Nehalem Unit met
at the home of Mrs. E. E Larson
April 8 at 10:30 a m. There were
11 members and one visitor pre
sent. It was announced that Mrs.
Norman Hansen had been chosen
as county committee member.
Election of officers was held with
the following results: chairman,
Mrs. John Howry; vice-chairman,
Mrs
Clair Devine; secretary
treasurer, Mrs Fred Busch.
Mrs. Bill Wilson and Mrs.
Wayne Kyser were project leaders
for the lesson on mending tips.
They led the discussion on vari
ous methods of mending and
some of the ladies mended over
alls in the new method that was
taught.
On May 13 the lesson will be
on family business and the law
and will be led by the county
agent. Mrs. Margaret Allyn. The
meeting will be at the home of
Mrs. Fr-d Busch and the children
will stay at the home of Mrs.
Alden Ashley. Everyone is wel
come and should bring a sack
lunch.
