The auxiliary will also gather clothing and supplies and send them to the 58th fighter bomber wing which is sponsoring “Op­ eration Santa Claus” for the needy orphans in Korea. Plans are to adopt two orphanages in that area. The next meeting will be the Christmas party. Deborah Society Entertained Tuesday The American Legion Auxili­ ary held the regular meeting at the Legion hall December 1. Final plans for their annual carnival dance on December 31 were made. Bill’s Swingsters have been engaged to play. The rehabilitation chairman sent in 23 pairs of pillow cases to the Portland veterans hospital for the Christmas gift shop. The members were asked to bring cookies to Isabel Culbert­ son’s on December 12. These will be taken into the hospital for the open house at the hospital on De­ cember 13. The gifts, which have been s mt into the hospital for t?.e gift shop, will be on display at that time. Several of the members are planning on attend­ ing. They vot-d to give $5.00 to the Vernonia Christmas association. They also voted $10.00 to the Gift to the Yanks program. At the next meeting on De­ cember 15 a joint Christmas party with the legion will be held. There will be treats for the child­ ren. Each one attending is to bring a gift valued from 75c to $1.00 to be exchanged. The community service chair­ man thanked the girls who helped prepare and serve the RE.A. luncheon on November 14. It was very successful.
