Campbell, OSC housing special
ists were in Columbia county last
past week and give suggestions
for two remodeling jobs and plan
ning of a community kitchen.
Remodeling usually involves
considerable expense and its a
good idea to think about the origi
nal structure and whether it is
worth this added cost before you
begin work.
Suggestions for a re-arrange
ment of rooms which could be
accomplished without changing
the outside walls were given. The

The United Fund in Columbia
county is falling behind. At the
start October 18, a time of two
weeks was anticipated to com
plete the undertaking, but two
weeks and more have elapsed
and the goal is far from being
achieved.
People nd doubt are weary of
the many separate drives of the
past. That yearly repitition of
fund drives is just the reason for
setting up the United Fund. This
undertaking is supposed to do th
job of the several drives at one
tomo. reduce expenses, reduce
th.1 effort of these who act as
chairmen and. probably most im
portant, make it necessary to
approach people for donations
only once.
The United Fund drive, for
these reasons, d. serves greater
support.
Many business houses were
undecided on the question whether
they would be op.n or closed to
business Armistice day, a prob
lem that has aris n in previous
years and probably will come up
again in the future unless a de
finite understand ng is r.ached.
The confusion will probably ,
continue for Armistice day as
well as som1 other special days
during the year until a definite
plan is devised.
Hire is a suggestion that per
haps the Lions club could carry
out to thè benefit of the entire
community. Draw up a list of
holidays for which businesses will
close.
Present ths list to all
firms for acceptance after ten
tative general agreement has been
reached and ask owners or mana
gers to definitely agree. Pub
lish in advance of each holiday
when stores will close, that they
will be closed.
Indecision of business owners
v/ould thereby b? avoided and
residents of the community would
be definitely benefitted.
There can be no friendship,
where th re can b? no freedom.

combination living and dining
room arrangement, a larger and
better arranged kitchen and the
bathroom mori convenient to
both the downstairs and upstairs
bedrooms would be much more
satisfactory.
The second home we visited
was concerned chiefly with re
medying the kitchen and adding
on a utility room.
This family felt that by elimi
nating one of the outside doors
that the extra space could be
used for the refrigerator. This
would provid.1 additional counter
space by the refrigerator and give
the homemaker a more compact
working area which would not be
interrupted by cross traffic.

back in Columbia county again
December 2, whep arrangements
have been made for a kitchen re
modeling job and planning of a
new home.
