GEMS OF THOUGHT
REFINEMENT
Refinement is the lifting of on ’s
self upwards from the merely
sensual, the effort of the soul to
etherialize the common wants and
uses of life.
—Henry Ward Beecher
Too great refinement is false
d-licacy, and true delicacy is solid
lefinement.
—LaRochefoucauld
The necessity for uplifting the
race is father to the fact that
min<j can do it; for mind can im
part purity instead of impurity,
strength instead of weakness, and
health instead of disease.
—Mary Baker Eddy
Refinement creates beauty
everywhere.
—William Hazlitt
Whenever education and refine-
inent grow away from the com
mon people, they are growing
toward selfishn ss, which is the
monster evil of the world.
— Henry Ward Beecher
True delicacy, as true gtnero-
sity, is more wound d by an act
of offence from itself, than to it-
self.
—Lord Greville
