Majority opinion of those w-ho thought they knew what could be exp-cted was that UHF could not be received here because of mountainous area be tween Vernonia and Portland. Since thin it has been found that reception is possible here from the Portland station and in some instances is fairly good, al though variable depending on 1 interference. Eight or tsn sets at least are in operation now. Now it is thought that reception will be even better when a VHF station starts broadcasting because this frequency will fol low ground contour while UHF will not. Future technical im provements of sets will no doubt also bring better reception. Theater owners who expected to experienced a drop in attend ance because of television may not find as many vacant seats as they thought, at least until TV re ception improves much more. Indication that theater attendance is beginning to go up was voiced Monday by Jay Taggart, manager of theaters near Port land. He said people ar? returning to see shows rather than watching television because the picture is so much better and larger. Pork& Beans k. ' V ’i À BONELESS U. S.
