BIRKENFELD — Mr. and Mrs. Mauck of St. Helens called on Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Elliott and Mr. and Mrs. M P Mills Wednes day. Mrs. Mauck is a sister of Mrs. Mills. The annual pioneer meeting Office Desk during an emergency. He explains the system further by saying: "in most areas of the state radio stations will operate intermittently during an air raid By Marvin Kamholz alert or enemy attack. They will Back again after an absence of be on the air for periods of 30 several weeks due to spac? limi- seconds or less and off the air tations, this column is still won- i several minutes at a time. Not much comment has event of an attack. been heard about the act in re cent days, but as long as the per son who distributed the poison is not apprehended there remains the danger that there may be an other attempt to eliminate more animals. When poison is placed in the manner recently employed, there is always the danger a small child may be a victim. Dog lovers have an incentive to help find the guilty person because of a re ward offered by "Dog World", a magazine published in Chicago. The magazine offers a reward of $53 to a person who identifies the poisoner, makes a complaint in court and is the principal wit ness to secure conviction. The person accused must be convicted in open court. A statement from the judge, justice of peace or pro. secuting attorney identifying the person making the charge is re quired over the official signature. Inquiries about the reward should be addressed to Dog World maga zine Reward Fund, 3323 Michigan Blvd., Chicago 16. Most people here probably give little thought to the work of the Oregon state civil defense agency but this word received a week ago from Robert Sandstrom, act ing director, should be remem bered because it will make pos sible the distribution of immedi ate information to the public in case of an air raid alert or enemy attack. During an alert or attack, radio stations will give immediate in- formation to the public on two civil defense frequencies: 640 and 1240 on the dial. All other fre- I quencies will be off the air. This system of notifying the public during an emergency has been designed to prevent enemy aircraft from using stations as a navigational aid, his release pointed out and been operative since May 15. Forty-three AM radio stations in 27 cities in th* state are prepared to broadcast 1952 SI.25 l-lb. pkg.
