No one particularly likes the thought of eating fresh peas that might be weevil infested. Being sure that peas from the home garden are weevil free means planning a little ahead for a dust ing program. Dusting should start when the first pods appear and will need to be repeated at 5 to 7 days intervals until the peas are harvested. A 5% meth oxychlor dust or a three-quarters of on? per cent rotenone dust will give good control of weevil. In commercial plantings, DDT and other insecticides are often used, depending upon what use is to be mad ? of the vines. DDT is not recommended where psa silage is to be fed to dairy cattle or cattle being finished for slaughter. and family, Mr. and Mrs Robert Long. In general the more immature a crop at cutting time the higher the percentage of protein. However, timing cutting so that the maximum yields per acre of protein are obtained is the goal. Cutting legumes at early bloom and grass at the bloom stage gives us that high protein, high quality silage as long as other ensiling conditions are right.
