Thursday evening’s program of
dedication for the new high school
building will be quite an occa-
' sion for this vicinity. The pro-
I gram will dedicate to the com
munity a building that can be
pointed to with pride as an asset
to this region. Because of the
new building and the features it
contains, th? requirements for
modsrn education have been met
through the cooperation of people
in the district who gave their
approval, which in turn, made it
possible for the district board to
carry the modernization program
to completion.
Again this year, as was the sit
uation last year, business m.?n
were in disagreement or unde
cided upon the question of observ.
ing Armistice day by closing their
doors for the day. The problem
was a topic of discussion Mon
day evening at the Lions club
meeting.
From that discussion a pro-
posal developed that may lead
to a d finite decision on the prob-
lem of which holidays should be
observed and which should not.
Th" proposal was that six holi
days during the year be con
sidered worthy of observance to
the extent that business houses
close their doors.
The days suggested were: New
Year's day. Memorial day, July
4. Labor day. Thanksgiving and
Christmas. These six days are
observed by union agreement. To
carry the problem to something
of a conclusion, it is likely that
a canvass of business places will
be made within the next few
days to determine the opinions
on the question of observing these
special days.
M^ny other business centers
have discontinued the observance
of Armistice day, probably be
cause of the fact that other wars
have been fought and decided
since Armistice day was first
established. The importance of
this day has changed since that
time and consequently its ob
servance is changing also.
