Others attend ing were Mr. and Mrs. Carl John and family of Willamina and Mr. and Mrs. V. E. Hamm and son of Hillsboro. C.V. Palmer of Lebanon visited at the Walt Parker home Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Wantland and family and Robert Kimball spent the week end at Salem visiting Mrs. Wantland’s mother, Mrs. Eert Taylor, and brother, W. H. Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Hill and two sons of Taft spent Friday at the Lloyd Callister home. Betty Huntley spent last week at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Huntley. She fell while working in at Fred Meyer’s and injured her back, but has returned to work again. Mrs. Dewey Hunt and son, Denny, are living at Fort Bliss Texas where Mr. Hunt is sta tioned with the army. J. E. Rose returned from the Physicians and Surgeons hospital Friday after undergoing surgery on Tuesday. He is able to be up and around. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Poole and daughter of Seaside spent Satur day night at the home of her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Jewell Lloyd. Mrs. D. R. U. S. Pat. Off. AUTOMATIC Last Sunday Vernonia saw a well attended session of the state council of Townsend clubs. It was held in the I.W.A. hall. The meeting was a regular convention of ths Eirst Congressional Dis trict of Oregon and delegates were present from nearly all of the eight counties in the district. The business session took up all matters held over from last meetings and made a number of interesting r. ports. One report should interest the elderly people in Oregon and give them a new lease on life. The report was that the C.I.O. has promised to lend the Townsend movement a help ing hand with it’s problems. A pot-luck dinner was served at noon after which a few good jokes and poems were read and then a moving picture, The Docks of New York, with the "East Side Kids” was shown. A talk by F. K. Haskell round ed out the day which was a warm one for the community. The next meeting place will be Salem. Mr. and Mrs. James Mills and children, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sutton and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Hernan of Portland visited the Kenneth Walker fam ily at Medford recently. While there the group visited the Jacksonville museum where Mrs. Hernan received a gift for being the 50,000th person to visit the museum. Mr .and Mrs. Walt Parker visited at th-' home of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Parker st Clatskanie Sunday. A. L. Parker had the misfortune to lose his little finger and get his hand badlv cut in an accident at his mill recently. Mrs. Shirley Kirt’and and her daughter. Karen, of Port Orford visited at the home of h r son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Garrison, from Wednesday till Monday. On Mondav she went ♦o the Veteran’s hosnital in Port land to take Mr. Kirtland home after having spent several weeks there. On Thursday he had a tumor removed from his neck. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Wilson of Artuna, California spent Monday visiting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hawkins. Mr. Wilson formerly did logging around Ver nonia. Mrs. Artie Buckner stayed with the children of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Buckner at Hillsboro from Thurs day till Saturday evening while they attended the Pendleton Round-up. Capt. William H. Manning ar rived Sunday from Washington. D.C. by plane to take his wife and two daughters back with him, having secured a place for them to live. Mr. and Mrs. Don Walsh and children of Portland spent Sun day at the home of her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wvckoff. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Dustin and son of Overton, Nebraska left Thursday after a nine-day visit at the home of his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Snook. Gerald Millis and Bill Chalm ers are attending the Pacific University at Forest Grove, hav ing started last Monday.
