Larraine Lartan, driver tor Barney’s Cab, was taken to the Willamette Sanitarium in Port land Monday morning for a treat ment for dislocated verterbraes. She is expected home in a few days. Malmsten have n?turned from a month va cation in Anchorage, Alaska, where they visited their son, Harvard, and family. The Malm, stens had a very interesting trip, visiting many places in the in terior also. They went from Tacoma to Anchorage on the Strata Cruiser and returned to Seattle on the S. S. Aleutian. Jones ■spent a recent week end in Med ford, going Saturday and return ing Sunday, visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ritz and twin daugh ters. Mrs. Dorihea Pearson left Ver nonia Sunday evening by bus for the home of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Gram of Portland to remain there until Tuesday. She left then for an extended visit with Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Howard, old time friends, at Emmett, Idaho. Mrs. Armena Felt left for Sea side and Astoria Wednesday and will return here Friday. Mrs. Tina Hiller and Mrs. Cora Phillips, cousins of Mrs. Anna Partridge, of San Pedro, Cali fornia, accompanied a friend. Mrs. Bertha Evans, also of San Pedro, on a trip to Vernonia to visit Mrs. Partridge and Mrs. Luella Eggert. This was the ladies first trip to Vernonia. They came Tuesday and left Friday of last week. The fall season of Eastern Star meetings opened on Wednesday night of last week with several special events taking place. Three new members were initiated into the order, Vida I. Alexander, Gladys Strong and Dwight Strong. Bertie and Ray Mills were pre sented a set of brass fire plac« articles as a going away gift, to be used in their new home at Cornelius. Birthday gifts were given Paul Cordon, W. patron and Walter Linn, associate patron. Fifteen n, mbers having birthdays in July, August and September were honored and given gifts. Birthday cakes and desserts were served in the dining room by the eats committee, Eva Hear ing, chairman, Dorothy Sandon, Mona Gordon, Alvilda Hearing and Hazel Smith, j The tables were decorated in pretty fall flewers from the Sam Hearing’s garden. Several improvements were ap preciatively noticed. Th,e chapter room had been beautified by the addition of a lovely new altar cloth, pretty flower baskets, and a fresh coat of varnish given the pedestals. These items were given by Florence Messing and Flor ence Brunsman and the painting done by Emil Messing. Everyone was agreeably sur prised a, the beautif'.:! ,'reen. well kept lawn and nicely trim- m~d shrubs at the front of the building. C. F. Hieber had taken care of the yard this summer as a special project, with the assis tance of Walt Kent. The next meeting, September 19, will be “Friendship Night.’’ All Eastern Star members are invited. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shaw of Seattle were visitors at the Roy Baker home last week. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Cagle, Otis Fuller, Bill Shipman, Edna Fuller, De lores Thompson and Betty Ann Thompson and son, Gary, attend ed the Jalopy races Labor day. Mr. and Mrs. Phil Taylor and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hartwick, Portland were here part of Sat urday and Sunday, the former as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brick- el and the latter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Bateman. Vernonia Studv Club Plans First Fall Meet The first fall meeting of the 1951-52 season for the Vernonia Study club is planned for the evening of September 20 at the home of Mrs. Ben Bricknl. VFW Auxiliary Plana For Dance September 22 The September meeting of the V.F.W. Auxiliary was held at the home of Pauline King with 18 members present. Plans wera complete for a dance to be held September 22 with Hal Cook’s orchestra fur nishing the music. Also discus sed were plans for the district meeting to be held September 6 at the I.O.O.F. hall. Delicious refreshments of cake, jello and coffee were served by Celia Laird and Eula Blount. The next meeting will be Sept ember 18 at the home of Ina Bateman. Auxiliaries Meet Here Thursday The V. F. W. Auxiliaries of St. Helens, Rainier, Clatskanie and Vernonia held their district meeting on September 6 at the I.O.O.F. hall in Vernonia. The meeting was well attended. Special guests of the evening were Gertrude Ashworth, depart- m nt president, who had just returned from the national en campment in New York arjd who gave a very interesting report and Blanch? Oberg, department vice-president. After the meeting they were joined by members of tlie post for refreshments of apple pie, ice cream and coffee. Br d?il Shower Honors Mrs. Cagle at Rose Home , A bridal shower in honor of Mrs. Eileen Cagle took place ai the home of Mrs. Darrel Rose a few days ago. Twenty-four people were present for the event and many nice gifts were received. Miss Fuller and Sam Cagle were married July 14 at Stevens, Washington. Birthday Remembered at Supper September 6 A birthday supper was given in honor of Homer Fuller Sept ember 6 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Darrel Rose. THURSDAY, SEPT. 13, 185» F Church Rite Read Sept. 1 The wedding of Tempie De Hart and Jack Nance was an event of Saturday, September 1. The candlelight ceremony was read by Rev. Paul D. Sisler at the Evangelical U. B. church. Baskets of lavender and white gladioli were at the alter. The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. DeHart, Sr., was given in marriage by her father. Her ankle-length gown was of white Chantilly lace over satin; her veil of illusion fell from a tiered tulle and pearl head piece. She car ried her white prayer book and a white orchid with streamers of white stephanotis. Miss Patricia Floater,, the maid of honor, wore an ankle-length gown of nile green net over taf feta; she carried yellow roses. The bridesmaids. Miss Betty Lou Frazee and Miss Marguerite Thomas, wore yellow gowns and carried pink roses. Clayton Aldrich was best man. Lester DeHart, brother of the bride, and E. P. Mullins were ushers. Miss Beverly Closner sang and Mrs. Lloyd Thomas was organist. At the reception held in the church social hall, Mrs. C J Nance and Mrs. Percy Hewes of Portland cut and served the cake Mr?- Leon Savage and Mrs. A. L. DeHart Jr., served coffee and punch.
