Rebekahs See Color Film of Yosemite The regular meeting of Mt. Heart R.bekah lodg? was held Thursday, August 23, and at that time th? application of Rena Brady was read. During the recess, a Travelogue on Yosemite national park was enjoyed. There was also a short March of Times reel. The travelogue was in color and showed the transformation that took place before the ice age. Bill Lindley ran the movie. After the meeting, refresh ments served by Hostesses Isabel Anderegg and Edith McFarland. Lena Schroeder was presented a lovely gift from the drill team because of faithful service while living here. She received many ■other gifts of remembrance from all her friends. Family Moves from Pebble Creek Home Supplies Brought For Pythians RIVERVIEW — Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Mathis and daughter, Peggy, of Little Rock, Arkansas are visiting at the home of his nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Huens. Mrs. Rex Normand, daughters, Pat, Ada and Glenda, Mrs. Grace Normand and Mrs. Richard Good man and daughter spent Friday at Astoria on business. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Hunteman and son have moved from the Cook home on Pebble Creek road to Rose Avenue. Mrs. Emery George and Mrs. Hollis Hungate of Portland spent Tuesday and Wednesday at the Ed Buckner and C. N. Rundell homes. Mr. and Mrs. Fay Buckner and family of Hillsboro visited at the homes of his mother, Mrs. Artie Buckner, and brother, Ed Buck ner and family, enjoying Sunday dinner at the latter place. Vernonia Temple No. 61, Py thian Sisters, met August 22 for their regular meeting with M.E.C. Mary Sawyer presiding. More dish towels were brought in for the Pythian home in Van couver, Washington and mem bers who were absent were asked to be sure to bring theirs in at the September 12 meeting. It was reported that Marjorie Cole of Longview, who was the first M.E.C. of Vernonia Temple, has recently been installed as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Jurisdiction of Washington. Con gratulations were sent to her from the Vernonia Temple. A welcome home was extended to Verna Loop, member of Ver nonia Temple who now resides in Bremerton, Washington, who was here visiting her mother, Mae Schoenbeckler. Delightful refreshments were served by Mary Sawyer, Eliza beth Shaumberg and Isabel Cul bertson. The tables were deco rated with beautiful bouquets of golden glow and dahlias, which were later auctioned off. Work Elsewhere Being Sought MIST — Bernard Dowling was in Portland last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Baillett and grandson, Gerry Dalton, and Carl Wikstrom left for Sweet Home Sunday to stay awhile and maybe find work. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Kjos came down from Eugene Saturday for a couple of days visit with her folks, the Austin Dowlings. They left for home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Merl Tiderman were up from Jewell Saturday and visited her sister, Mrs. Chas. Hansjn. Mr. Tiderman is school janitor in Jewell for both the grade and high schools. The Chas. Sundlands are hav ing some old buildings torn down on their lots, Mr. Dorio is doing the work. Sunday dinner guests of the C. L. Waddell family were Mrs. Waddell’s brother and family, Mr and Mrs. Raymond Mickey, from McMinnville. Mrs. L. P. Wikstrom was a visitor in Seaside last Friday. Mr and Mrs. Kenneth Smith from McMinnville called at the Irving Knowles’ horn? Saturday. Mrs. Clara Libel was up from Seaside one day last week visit ing relatives. PTA's Plan for Reception Tues. t. Sit IT HIRI TODAY Vernonia Eagle Office Supplies A reminder was voiced by PTA offiicals this week that the reception for high’ and grade school teachers will take place the evening of Tuesday, Septem. ber 4 at 8 o’clock at the Wash ington school auditorium Along with the notice of the affair was issued a request for flowers that any member or non member of either the grade or high school PTA would like to donate. The flowers are needed for making corsages and bouton nieres for the reception. Also needed by the PTA’s is the assistance of anyone who will donate time for the work and the use of cars to gather the flowers Monday and Tuesday and to dec orate Tuesday afternoon. People who can help are asked to call Mrs. Byron Kirkbride, phone 8811, or Mrs. K. G. West, phone 822. Both are presidents of tfte PTA groups. We are depending on you to help prevent forest fires. THURSDAY, AUG. 30, 1M1 Week with Folks Drawing to Fix Hunting Quotas RIVERVIEW — David Titch- nal, who is in the navy and stationed at Astoria, visited his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Al bert Schalock, over the week end. The Schalocks and their guest went to Willamina Saturday to the home of Mrs. Schalock’s sister and family, Mr. •»nd Mrs. Carl Johns. On Sunday they all went to Depoe Bay where they enjoyed a day deep sea fishing. Mrs. Gilbert Abney and child ren of Wishram, Washington visited at the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Welter, from Wednesday until Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bond visited Saturday afternoon at the home of his brother, W. I. Bond, at Forest Grove. Mrs. Pearl Wilkerson spent Tuesday and Wednesday at Til lamook visiting her son and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. Burford Wil kerson. Carl Revis of Cottage Grove visited Wednesday and Thurs day at the home of his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Gal loway. Trip Started to East by Auto MIST — Mr. and Mrs. Richard Banzer left Thursday morning on a trip to the eastern states by auto. They expect to be gone two or three weeks. Mrs Norman Hanson and her mother-in-law, Mrs. Chas. Han sen, were in Astoria one day last week visiting Mrs Robert Roeser. Amy Kyser is in Forest Grove where she is waiting for cannery work. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Lloyd East- I man came from Klamath Falls Friday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Eastman. Bobby went home wi>h them after spending the summer here. Mr. and Mrs. Walt Bateson were Sunday dinner guests of their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Blount. It was Linda’s birthday. The Blounts live in Vernonia. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Hansen spent the week end in Portland. Chas. Sundland was a guest of Ed Salomonsen on a deep sea fishing trip Sunday. Five either-sex deer hunts are being held in agricultural areas this year. Quotas for Area I, parts of Columbia, Washington, Clackamas, and Marion counties and Area V, the Keating district near Baker, were over-subscribed by the August 15 deadline, so a public drawing will be held on September 4. Quotas for the Josephine and Jackson, Coos and Curry and Hood River county either-sex deer hunts slated for September 15 through 18 have not been filled and hunters may still ap ply for permits. Hunters may apply by letter. Permits will be mailed for these hunts in the order applications are received until September 6 or until quotas are filled. Appli cations by letter should include name, address, type of hunting license and number, and area de sired. No fee is required for these hunts but the general deer tag must be used.
