Mr. and Mrs. Chet Alexander from Vernonia spent Christmas with her mother, the Knowles. Mr. and Mrs. L. P. Wikstrom are down in California at Grass Valley visiting her parents. School pupils returned to their duties again Tuesday after a ten- day vacation. The Percy Metis’s called on Mrs. Chas. Sundland during the weekend a week ago. Three Business Places Robbed at Clatskanie Safes in three Clatskanie busi- nesses were broken into, pre- sumably early Tuesday morning of last week and approximately $3670 in cur rency and silver was taken. Colvins Pool Hall suffered loss of about $3,000; Lewis Market, $550 and Austin’s Grocery, $120. Papers and endorsed checks were not taken by the robbers at any of the three places but they were strewn upon the fioor around the safes. The nation’s production goat’s milk is valued at $100,- 000,000 a year. Coasting Parties Enjoyed at Mist MIST — The Geo. Jones ate their Christmas dinner with the Libel family. Miriam Corll was indisposed and took a few days off from her store clerking duties during the last of the week. Coasting parties seem the or der of these days, coasting by night by a bon fire at the foot of the hill. Mr. and Mrs. Percy Baillett spent the holidays in Snohomish, Washington with the Dalton fami ly. Over the holiday guests at the A. R. Melis home were, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Melis from Idaho and Mr. and Mrs. Vern Ferguson and Carol Sue from Kirkland, Washington. Chas. Melis from Florence, Mrs. Helen Kizer from Mapleton, Chas. Webber from Portland and Miss Rae Berland Jrom Tacoma, Washington. Monday evening guests at the Carl Enneberg home were Mr. and Mrs. Claud Johnson and two daughters, and Roy Hughes and Helen Johnson. The even ing was spent in music and songs. Jim Hill ate Christmas dinner with his daughter, Mrs. L. P. Wikstrom, Sr. Other • guests were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roeser and two children and Mr. and Mrs. Norvin Wikstrom and son from Vernonia. — — —• • Next Meeting of WMS Scheduled January 11 MIST — The W.M.S. will meet at the home of Mrs. A. R. Melis on January 11. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Sundland and Sharon spent the Christmas holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sundland. They live at McMinnville. The Carter family moved to Birkenfeld from the Melvin Sax on house and the Saxon’s moved in. The human heart 100,000 times a day Alder Volume Table Compiled A red alder volume table de signed to aid all hardwood log gers and mill men in Oregon, has been completed through the cooperative efforts of the Oregon state board of forestry, the Pa cific Northwest forest and range experiment station, British Co lumbia forest service and the Weyerhauser Timber Company, according to George Spaur, state forester. The forester stated that increas ed logging and milling operations in alder stands created a demand for the volume table. The tables have been printed on a conveni ent pocket size card and indicate the board foot volumes of stand ing or felled and bucked alder timber Spaur stated that the pocket card and a five-page research bulletin containing additional in formation may be obtained free of charge by writing to the state forester’s office in Salem.
