It was on!y in the final quarter of the game that the better conditioned Loggers were able to control the hard fighting Tigers. The Yamhill boys made the most of their advantage in height and forced the locals to battle all the way to their victory. Some sources seem to feel that one reason for the poor shooting and passing of the Logger team could be blamed on overconfi dence In the first game of the even ing the Logger B squad came up with a 26 to 16 victory. Vernonia Defeats Portland Team The same old story came true again Friday night, December 9, when a Portland team took it on the chin to th? tune of 903 to 884 from the Vernonia Gun club. This was a sitting-standing match, which is hard for young shooters and nearly impossible for old ones. This match com- nleted the first half of the shoot ing program for this season. The next regularly scheduled match will be January 6, 1950. In the meantime the club will shoot the course prescribed by the director of civilian marks manship. The war department issues regular army medals to all that qualify. All members are urged to shoot this course as the government issue of supplies depends on the number of men who shoot it. Ralph Aldrich led the way Fri day' with a fat 183, followed closely by the Lamping brothers with an identical score of 18L The box score was: Ralph Aldrich Milton Lamping Bernard Lamping Tod Bowerman Ben George Harold Peterson Robert Lamping Carl Davis Bill Nichols Clyde Lamping Highest five score 183 181 181 180 178 176 167 165 164 127 903 ABOVE photo was snapped last Wednesday night an instant after a V.F.W. Diaver sunk his basket. Picture below was taken in the second half while the Vets were attempting to prevent a Scappoose score. The Scapooose five won 63 io 48. Vernonia will meet the Clatskanie town team here tonight at 8 p.m. at the h’gh school gym and go to Westport Saturday night. Westport will play here Wed nesday, the 21st and Beaverton will come on the 23rd. All local games beg’n at 8p.m. ______ Bowling Results WOMENS LEAGUE The Vernonia Women’s League has completed the ,13th week of the 1949-50 bowling season.
