Timber Rt., Box 56 Vernonia, Oregon PORTLAND The Vernonia Study Club met at the home of Mrs. A. J. Hughes for the last meeting in Novem ber. The program completing the study of Sheldon’s, "The Theatre,” was given by Mrs. Judd Greenman. It begins with the birth of democracy in France, through romanticism in Germany, Victorianism and Geo. B. Shaw, realism and the rise of produc tion as an art, ending with our machine age developments and with a note of glamour and ma gic on an evening spent in the Broadway district, New York City. The December 1 program was the beginning of the study of “Music Through the Ages” by Marion Bauer and Ethel Peyser. “Music,” it is said, “is a docu ment of human experience re corded in manument and sound”, beginning 5000 years BC with primitive and ancient music, through music of the church, secular music and instrumental music up to the seventeenth cen tury. Mrs. Wm. Nichols was hostess for this meeting.
