LIGHTING FIXTURES The Vernonia Loggers went to work this week with a determined look in their eyes for the coming tilt with their old arch rivals, the St. Helens Lions. The Loggers defeated the Liens last year on the local field in a game plagued by penalties. Coach Lee Pangle this week is ironing out his weaknesses that showed up in the Tillamook game, and they are plenty. The Loggers main weakness and most apparent to the spectatcrs, seemed to be the ends. The rest of the line showed up well and the backfield looked fair on defense, but on offense they couldn’t click. So far this season the squad has been lucky with not an injury cn the team so far. Injuries have plagued the Loggers in past years when they would have from three to four first-string men on the bench with injuries. So the locals will be at full strength for this tilt. Sherwood won their first game of the season last week when they defeated the Sherwood Bulldogs. Little is known of the Saints strength here. The game Friday night at St. Helens is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. daylight saving time., A trampoline act is scheduled for the halftime festivities, it was announced last week by the St. Helens Kiwanis club, which is in charge of pro motion of tha opening game. Pro fessional entertainers from Van couver, Washington will partici pate in the show. The Mississippi river drains five-tenths of the United States.
