The Minister's Corner pared as part of the Rally day and Promotion day service. The pas tor will speak on the subject, “In God’s School.” True Education and Our Schools Rev. Paul D. Sister The sight of tiny tots and young men and women on their way to and from our schools again after the summers va cationing has brought with it a few stinging questions. How well are our schools doing their job of passing on the ac cumulated stores of knowledge and wisdom to the oncoming generations. Is our educational program geared to lead our young people out into fuller, richer living. Or, is it, as some are protesting, preparing a fu ture citizenry for a thought- controlled materialistic, slave state? In our effort to keep the church and state seperate we have reached the present situa tion where religion is practically banished from our school rooms. The consequence is that our children have come to believe that the spiritual heritage has little or no value for them. In effect we are saying to them, “We want you to know how to produce bigger and better automobiles, more com fortable and streamlined homes, more heathful and cheaply pro duced foods, and more powerful atom bombs with which to an nihilate our enemies; as for the technique of living abun dantly and peaceably together At the Churches Special Speaker Due The members and friends of the First Christian church are holding “Community Night” Fellowship dinners this fall on each third Friday evening. The first of the dinners will be held Friday even ing, September 16, at the church. The program will consist of an address by a well-known speaker and special musical numbers. The kick-off speaker will be Rev. Hu bert Sias, pastor of the Mallory Ave, Christian church in Portland. He recently completed directing we’ll leave them to chance and the churches.” Some of our educators, rightly disturbed by Education’s failure to induce powerful enough in centives to right living, are saying anew with the author of The Proverbs, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” They are saying, in other words, that if we want our schools to produce better citizens for the tomorrows, they will in some way have to be geared to the dynamic forces of revealed religion which makes the knowledge of God and his will for men the most important quest of our learn ing. We in our own community need to find some way to link the schools and the churches together in an integral effort to produce the results that neither can achieve alone. We owe this to our children. In fact, unless we work together to see that they learn true wis dom, we shall wake up to the sickening fact some day that everything else we have pro vided for them has been snatch ed away by a cruel despot. This question, then, lifts its head above the others as school begins again, "Just how much do we really want our children to have true education for abundant living?” of the construction of the new building at Mallory Ave. He comes to us recommended by many years of experience and a very successful pastorate in Port land. He is a busy man and one whom we should all desire to hear. The dinner will begin at 7:00 p.m. as a planned pot-luck with meat loaf, scalloped potatoes, vegetable salad, pie and all are urged to bring one item with them. Rally Day Planned Rally day at the Evangelical U. B. church will feature a com bined worship and Sunday school hour on Sunday morning at 9:45 o’clock. Mrs. Lesta Garner, Sup’t. announces that a program from the Sunday school is being pre CYF to Begin Program The Christian Youth Fellowship will hold its first meeting Sunday evening with the youth of the Forest Grove Christian church. Andy why does he let drink and pros titution spread until heathen tribes far inland are rotting under the white man’s disease? The answer is that this is not the day of the new world-order. This is the day of salvation. Now for 2000 years since Christ, God has been calling out a people on whom to spend his love in the ages to coms. When the last soul is brought in to fill out the roll-call of the saved, Christ is to return and sweep out the present world-order and set up the new day. So today the saved await the appearing in glory of our great God and Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us to free us from every iniquity and to purify for Himself a people who should be His own and active in good works. Know your Bible and see Titus 2:11-14. Stand on God’s word that the blood of Jesus Christ, God’s oniy- born Son has utterly and wholly cleansed your life-page. Then get your marching orders from the Bible. And die, to self and look to Christ for strength to live the new life.
