d THURSDAY, SEPT. 8, 1949 THE EAGLE, AROUND THE FARM Fall is the time to apply phos phate fertilizer to ladino clover. It is early yet but not too early Io make plans and order the fer tiliser. We have mentioned before how well the phosphate trials -bowed up on ladino clover for Ralph McKee, Vernonia. These ■fertilizer plots have continued to crow more and look greener than Unfertilized all summer. McKee plans to apply 300 pounds of phosphate to his entire pasture this fall about October 15. Recommendations on applying phosphate to ladino clover are to ■wait until the fall rains set in »» the soil surface will stay con tinually moist after the phosphate is applied. Alternate wetting and drying of phosphate after it is applied tend to make it unavoid able to the plants. A question that often comes up on the fall application of phos phate is whether or not the winter rains will leach the phosphate out. GIVES YOU THE VERNONIA, ORE By W. G.
