Jobless Pay Ends for
Most Vets July 25
An estimated 95 per cent of
Oregon's World War II veterans
will be ineligible for GI jobless
benefits after July 25, stopdate
for payments to men discharged
from active service prior to the
official end of the war on July
25, 1947, the Oregon department
of veterans’ affairs reports. The
remaining five per cent can draw
until their two years following
discharge time is up.
As the end to this phase of the
GI bill neared, figares from the
Oregon state unemployment com
pensation commission disclosed
that only 6530 veterans, or less
than five per cent of Oregon’s
World War II veteran population,
had exhausted their benefits, which
amount to $20 a week for a maxi
mum of 52 weeks for the unem
ployed ex-GI and $100 for slight
ly more than ten months of self
employed.
Oregon veterans received $31,-
330.000 in federal jobless pay in
the nearly five years of the pro
gram. The jobless peak was in
early March of this year when 24,-
329 veterans drew benefits in one
week.
The lightest load. 1152
veterans, occured in October. 1948.

Applications for
Antelope Open
C. A. Lockwood. Oregon state
game supervisor, announces that
applications, on a tentative basis
for antelope tags should be mailed
to the Oregon state game com
mission office in Portland at once.
The proposed antelope season
for this year in Oregon is only
tentative as regulations will not
be made final until July 23. The
early dates of the proposed sea
son, however, makes it necessary
for hunters to participate to mail
applications at an early date, Mr.
Lockwood stated.
The tentative hunting regula
tions call for a limited antelope
hunt with 1,000 tags to be issued.
If more than that number of ap
plications arc received, a public
drawing will be held to determine
the successful applicants. Appli
cations for tags may be male on
regular forms which are available
at all license agencies or by let
ter. If application is made by
letter, the following information
must be included: the applicants
name (printed), his address, the
type of license and the license
number. No money is to be sent
with the application.
As was the practice last year
for special seasons, applications
will be accepted for individual«
or for parties or individuals up tn
and including four persons. If
party aplications are made, the
proper information must be sup
plied for each member of the party.
All applications for antelope
tags must be in the game com
mission office in Portland by
5 p.m.. July 27.
The advantag nf many commer
cial codes is that hey candense the
message into one-fifth the space.
