Miss Weidman Wedded
At Candlelight Service
Miss Vona Weidman, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Paul P. Weidman
of Vernonia, was married at an
impressive
candlelight
service
Saturday evening, July 16, to
Mr. Alexander Harvey, son of
Mr. and Mrs. David Harvey, Sr.,
of Portland.
Rev. Allen H.
Backer performed the ceremony
in a setting of gladioli and baby
breath in the auditorium of the
Evangelical U. B. church.
Mrs. Tommy Lou Reznich of
Portland and Miss Florence Ber­
ger of Vernonia lighted the tapers
preceding the ceremony. Mrs.
Zola Hescock of Portland, ac­
companied by Mrs. Lois Clark of
Vernonia sang “At Dawning” and
“The Lord’s Prayer.” Pianist
ond organist were Mrs. Lois Clark
and Mrs. Louise Thomas.
Mrs. Alta Wuthrick, attired in
a nile green bouffant taffetta
gown with matching headdress,
was matron of honor. Miss Neoma
McMullen was bridesmaid and wore
a similar frock of yellow and
both carried nosegays of white
gladiol and pastel shades of
sVeet peas and rosebuds.
Little Ramona Robertson, whose
pink dress patterned those of the
attendants, dropped flowers from
a floral covered basket. David
Harvey III, small nephew of the
groom, was ring bearer.
The bride, given in marriage
by her father, wore a gown of
white satin and lace with an il­
lusion veil falling to her finger

The Odd Fellows lodge put on
the initiatory degree in conjunc­
tion with a visit from Grand
Master Warren Young and other
Grand Lodge officers Tuesday
night. Woodlawn lodge No. 171,
Portland, attended in a body to
pay a fraternal visit.
Those taking the initiatory were
Donald Zuroff and Don F. (Red)
O’Brien.
Lodges represented were: Wood­
lawn 10, Clatskanie 3, Seaside 3,
Corvallis 1, Vermillion, So. Dak. 1
and Vernonia 31. Ice cream and
homemade pie was served by the
Rebekahs.
The initiatory degree will be giv­
en again Tuesday, July 26.
Stars Slate Picnic
The Eastern Star annual family
picnic will be held at 2 o’clock
Sunday, July 31, at Rogers park.
The members of the local Masonic
lodge will be their guests for the
pot-luck dinner.

18 at Corvallis are Mr. and Mrs. Mance L. Rose. The bride is the for­
mer Miss Ilione Schenk of Corvallis and the groom is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. James E. Rose of Vernonia.

Unites Couple June 18
Miss Ilione Schenk, daughter of
Mrs. Clarence Wesley Kienle and
the late John Fredrick Schenk of
Corvallis, became the bride of
Mance L. Rose, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jame3 E. Rose of Vernonia,
at a ceremony held at 8 o’clock
in the evening, Saturday, June 18,
in the First Method’st church at
Corvallis. The Reverend Clarence
W. Reynolds read the double ring
service.
The altar of the church was
flanked by palms, tall baskets of
yellow and white eremurius, and
candelabra holding white tapers.
Before the ceremony, Donald
Marley, accompanied at the organ
by Mrs. W. F. Gaskins, sang “Be­
cause.” As the dedication song,
Mr. Marley sang “Delta Delta
Delta Wedding Hymn.”
Given in marriage by her brother,
John H. Schenk of Corvallis, the
bride wore a gown of white slipper
satin, made on train. Her finger­
tip veil of illusion net fell from
a Juliet cap of lace which matched
the paneled lace bib on the bodice
of her gown, and she carried a
white orchid on a white Bible.
The bride’s attendants wore
marquisette gowns with matching
mitts and picture hats, and car­
ried matching nosegays. Miss
Jeanne Dories Stoner of Ridge­
field, Washington, as maid of
honor, wore a yellow gown, while
Mrs. C. Stanley Rondeau and Mrs.
Lawrence E. Underwood of Cor­
vallis, as bridesmatrons, wore
gowns of aqua blue. Little Miss
Dona Lee Kienle, as flower girl,
was dressed similarly to the maid
of honor, wearing a yellow mar­
quisette gown and matching picture
hat. Allen Shevalier, wearing a
white linen suit and carrying a
white satin pillow, served as ring
bearer.
Mrs. Ralph H. Nielson, wearing
a gown of apple green taffeta,
and Mrs. Earle L. Giieg, wearing
a lavender gown, lighted the altar
tapers before the ceremony. They
carried white tapers set in pastel
nosegay bases.
For her daughter's wedding,
Mrs. Kienle wore a gown of
dusty rose crepe with gray ac­
cessories and a corsage of gardeni­
as and pink rosebuds. Mrs. Rose,
mother of the groom, wore a gown
of pastel pink with white acces­
sories an a corsage similar to that
of the bride’s mother.
Following the ceremony a re­
ception was held in the Blue Room
of the Hotel Corvallis. Cutting
the cake were Mrs. George Y.
Martin and Mrs. Frank Warner of
Corvallis, while Mrs. Ralph H.
Nielsen, Mrs. Earle L. Greig, Miss
Marylouise Allen and Mrs. Robert
J. Fink assisted with the serving.
Frank Warner and George Y.
Martin attended the punch bowl,
and Miss Elinor Paulson had
charge of the guest book.
For going away, the bride wore
an hand-tailored 3uit of navy
blue gabardine with accessories
of navy blue suede and natural
straw. Her corsage was of white
orchids. The couple’s weddig trip
included tours of the Oregon
beaches, and Odell, Crescent, Davis
and Twin Lakes.
The bride, who was graduated
from Corvallis high school, at­
tended Brenau College for Women
at Gainesville, Georgia, where she
became affiliated with Delta Delta
Delta Social fraternity for women.
She serves as social editor of the
Corvallis Gazette-Times. Mr. Rose
a graduate of Vernonia high school
serves as district circulation man­
ager of the Gazette-Times and
will continue his studies next fall
as a senior student in the school
of business and technology at
Oregon State college.
Mr. and Mrs. Rose are at home
at 960 Adams street, Corvallis.

Officers Installed

The regular meeting of the
Mt. Heart Rebekah Lodge was
held Thursday evening in the
I.O.O.F. hall with Beryl Cline,
Noble Grand, presiding. Follow-
t>he opening ceremonies, Faye
Davis, District Deputy President
and the installing officers, being
in waiting were introduced and
given the honors of the Degree.
Installation of officers was then
held with the following Deputies
assisting the District Deputy
President: Marshall, Silvia Tur­
ner; warden, Lena Schroeder; sec­
retary, Alice Gwin; treasurer
Myrtle Oakes; chaplain, Ella Cline;
inside and outside guardians, Zoe
Whitsell and Evelyn Heath and
musician, Florence Messing.
The following officers were in­
stalled for the coming term: N.G.
Jewell Robinson; V.G., Ione Jus­
tice; secretary, Jane Pace; trea­
surer, Gladys Strong; warden,
Virginia Davis; conductor, Neoma

the meeting, refreshments of ice
cream, cake and punch were
served.

The social hall of the Evangel­
ical U. B. church was the scene
of a delightfully appointed bridal
shower honoring Miss Vona Weid­
man on Tuesday evening, July
12. The hall was beautifully
decorated with ocean spray, roses,
lilies and delphinium. The many
lovely gifts were arranged on
a table centered by a large bride
doll.
During the evening, Mrs.
Allan Backer read several selec­
tions featuring advice to the bride,
and Mrs. Lois Clark played a
medley of love songs. After the
bride-elect had opened and dis­
played her gifts, delicious refresh­
ments of Bavarian cream, wafers

At Shower Tuesday
the groom, completed the lovely
ensemble and she carried an or­
chid on her white Bible.
Best man for his brother was
David Harvey, Jr., of Portland.
Bob Hansman of Portland and
Lorin Weidman of Vernonia
ushered.
Following the ceremony a re­
ception was held in the church
parlors. Cutting the beautifully
decorated cross shaped wedding
cake for the 180 guests was
Mrs. Henry John of Sweet Home.
Mrs. Elgus Frank of Vernonia
assisted. Mrs. Inez Powell of
Vernonia precided at the coffee
table and Mrs. E. J. Douglas
of Vernonia served the punch.
Mrs. Margaret Hartzell had charge
of the guest book and assisting
throughout the parlors were:
Mary Ann Clark, Dorothy Backer,
Lesta Garner, Beth Backer, Leah
Stiff, Mrs. Alice Malmstein, Mrs.
Isola Morris and Mrs. Erma Kent.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey are now
at home in Seattle following a
short honeymoon trip.
