THE EAGLE, VERNONIA, OREGON THURSDAY, DEC. 9, 1948 3 LET'S BE SOCIABLE Double Ring Ceremony Unites Couple at Bride’s Home Saturday Miss Martha Rhoda Wells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester L. Wells, became the bride of Grover F. Botkir, son of Mrs. Lillian Botkin, Washington, D. C., in an afternoon ceremony on De cember 4 at her parents’ home on Mist route, Riverview. Lester L. Wells, brother of the bride, and Beverly Herrin, friend, attending the couple. Officiating at the double ring ceremony was Reverend W. 0. Livingstone of Hood River, re tired minister of the First Chris tian church of Vernonia. The bride wore a gray after noon dress with grey suede shoes and a grey felt hat as accessories. Her sorsage was red American Beauty rosebuds. The bride’s mother wore a dress of dark blue. Beverly Herrin, maid-of-honor, was garbed in a black afternoon dress with a white brocaded satin jacket. Both wore American Beauty rosebud corsages. The guests included the bride’s family, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Her rin, their son Jerry, Mrs. Phebe Rider and Miss June Purviance from Pacific University. Miss Purviance sang “Because" and played for the entrance. A short reception was held fol lowing the ceremony. A bouquet of white chrysanthemums formed a background for the wedding cake, pink Lady Baltimore with white frosting. The young couple left Saturday following the ceremony for Port land and will leave the first of the week on a honeymoon trip to Washington, D. C., where they will make their home. • Club Entertained Mrs. C. L. Anderson was hostess to the O-A Bridge club Thursday afternoon of last week. Officers Elected for Term The Women’s Missionary Society of the Christian church had charge of the Women’s Day service at the church Sunday evening. The moving picture, “My Name is Han,” was shown. The Society held a meeting at the church Friday evening at 7:30. Mrs. Grace Peachey headed an interesting program entitled “Un der Two Flags.” After the meeting a group of friends gave Martha Wells and her fiance, Grover F. Botkin, a shower and a party. Cake and coffee were served and the couple received the best wishes of their friends. The annual Christmas party given by the "Loyal Women” of the Christian church has been postponed from Wednesday of this week until Wednesday, December 15. The Ninety and Nine men of the Christian church will meet at the church on Friday, December 10, at 7:30 p.m. This is an im- portant meeting. Election of of- ficers and important correspon dence are to be considered. Tuesday evening’s I. 0. 0. F. meeting was devoted to the second degree work for Dave Howard and the election of officers who will lead the lodge for the next six-month term. In addition three visitors from Newberg were pre- sent for the evening. The officers named were: Art Davis, Noble Grand; Allen Ray, Vice-grand; Bill Shafer, secretary, and Louis Schroeder, treasurer, They will be installed early in January. Special Meeting Held A special meeting of the P.E.O. Sisterhood was held at the home of Mrs. Judd Greenman Monday, December 8, for the visit of the state organizer, Mrs. Fred Nes- telle. Mrs. Laura McCready was also present During the meetings Mrs. Ora Bolmeier was initiated and refreshments were served. Mrs. McCready is state record ing secretary of P. E. O.
