Oscar Dillman of Vernonia mo tored to Forest Grove on business several times last week. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Crowder, past residents of Birkenfield and now living in Chicago, Illinois, are spending the summer with Mr. Crowder’s mother in Multnomah Mr. Crowder was a graduate of the class of 1938 at Vernonia. Mr. Crowder is continuing his school ing under the G. I. loan in Chi- cago. Callers at the Michener home August 26 were Mr. and Mrs. Oral Michener, a nephew of Mr. Michener, who is employed on the Portland to Pendleton bus line as driver. Otto Michener, under the nursing of his daughter, Mrs. June Wooldridge, is about the same. Mr. and Mrs. Newt Haney, a nephew of Mr. Rosa, Mrs. Dora Sears, a niece and sister to Newt, and Frank Lewis, all of Forest Grove spent Wednesday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Rosa on Timber route. A dinner was served pot-luck style. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd E. Tunnell moved from Vernonia last Sun day morning taking with them Joyce, Daisy, Barbara and Ronnie Ellis to a home in Pondosa, in eastern Oregon. Mr. Tunnell is employed in a shingle mill there. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Reddling of Corey hill celebrated their 8th wedding anniversary September 3. Word has been received from Fairbanks, Alaska that Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Binkley are the parents of a boy born September 1. He has been named Charles Madison Binkley and weighed eight pounds, one ounce. Mrs. Binkley is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hall. Mrs. Leone Miller has been at tending summer school in Port land, coming home to visit the family this last week end. Mrs. Miller intends to continue school at Monmouth until December, at which time she hopes to have earned her teaching permit. Miss Georgia Miller went to Portland August 27 for a vaca tion with Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Young who are constructing a restaurant in Portland, which they hope to have open for business by September 27. Miss Miller came home to Vernonia Sept ember 2. Mrs. Robert Burr and two daughters returned to Vernonia from Yakima last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford White, Jr., of Portland were here to celebrate his birthday early this week. They arrived in Vernonia Saturday evening and left for Portland Monday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Bruman and family, who have been visiting their aunt, Mrs. Anna Partridge, and cousins, the Eggerts, Eck- land and Cederburgs and also other relatives and friends in Ore gon, left for their home in Los Angeles, California last Thurs- day. Word has K"«n received that Mrs. Wilma Ellis has been con- f'ned to a hosnital at St. Louis, Missouri for some time due to overwork. Mr. and Mrs. David Vclte and daughter, Barbara, from Boulder, Colorado snent last week end with Mr. and Mrs. Norman Nieman and daughter, Marian. T. W. Matylinski of Vernonia was in Lebanon last week end to see Mr. and Mrs. A. Pieschke and family. They accompanied him to the beaches over the holiday. Mrs. A. E. Jennings announced this week that her house at 196 A St. is open to all people who have clothing they don’t wish to keep and who wish to dispose of it. On Mondav, both families went to McMinnville and visited a state park near Newberg on Labor dav. Mr. and Mrs. O. U. Powell and Mr. Rice, all of Portland, spent last week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Castner on Capitol Hill. Mr. Powell and Mrs. Castner are s'ster and brother.
