Kirtland at the Cemetery House Phone 1024 I g 3 Grangers Get 25-Year Award Columbia County Pomona Grange was royally entertained on Saturday, August 7 with a large attendance of members and visi tors. Three members received 25 year certifications, these being Mr. and Mrs. George Mills and Mrs. Emma Harrison, all being members of Beaver Homes Grange now, but formerly members of Deer Island Grange. These certificates were presented by Mrs. Pearl Becker. Jerry Nibler, county agricultur ist, gave an interesting talk in diseases effecting tomatoes and cucumbers, and which are quite serious this season. These are reported to be caused by a virus or different viruses which may be developed and spread by dahlias and gladioli when they are planted nearby. A large delegation of grangers from Russellville including their degree team put on a drill in the evening. There was also work including the opening of the Juve nile Grange put on by the Yank ton Juvenile Grange. This was the same work put on by this group at the State Grange in Astoria. The club members who received scholarships from Pomona Grange to attend 4-H summer school were introduced to Mr. Nibler and each spoke briefly, thanking the Grange for their scholarships. These members were Venitta Michell and Loren DeShazer, both of Warren. The Fifth Degree was exempli fied for a class of five new mem bers. The next meeting of Po mona Grange will be held at Marshland in November. At this time the county canning contest will end with judging of fruit canned with White Satin sugar. • Dying Boy Healed His son lay dying and the father—an officer in the king’s court—went to Cana to get Jesus to heal the boy. Come up before my son dies, pleads the father Jesus felt out the man and found he had true heart faith, Jesus was his only hope. Jesus could do it if He would. It was Jesus and a cure or else a dead son. YOUR SON LIVES said Jesus. That was enough. Local and long distance telephone traffic is at its peak. A constantly increasing number of new telephones are being installed — switchboard facilities expanded — new equip ment added. In spite of this enormous progress, however, some people are still waiting for service. This is caused by a combination of still existing material shortages and an increasing demand for telephone service. But we hope that the giant strides being taken today will soon overcome every obstacle, and «.-eryone desiring service will have it soon.
